Do you think they will enforce lockdown in the uk?

Just wondering? Can't even cope with the thought of supermarkets if they do enforce it.

I think there may be.

niffynoonoo · 19/03/2020 20:25

This evening Boris ackowledged the patchy social distancing. So the government is aware. I think if people dont buck their ideas up soon, theyll have to!

HotSauceCommittee · 19/03/2020 20:26

I think we need to, although I’m not sure the government will.
Coronavirus is so invisible unless one has seen illness and death first hand. I just think we don’t appreciate how easily it spreads and we haven’t truly considered that we cannot “spare” loved ones or anyone to this.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 19/03/2020 20:28

Its a dilemma as its massively against our culture. But, it may be the only way to stem the tide. It worked in China, but only because it was enforced.
Asking people to self isolate/social distance won't work in my opinion. So they will have to choose whether to enforce a lock down or let the virus run riot.

Personally, I think it's coming in about another week, in London at least

Crazydiamond106 · 19/03/2020 20:28

I think so...to be honest I hope so because people just aren't listening and are ignoring the government's requests for social distancing. I think if they don't enforce it we have no way of hoping to manage the rate of the spread. Some people I know have pressure from their employers so have no real choice to go to work and get paid or to keep their business going...but others are just being totally selfish, thinking they are special and the rules don't apply. It really winds me up as because the mortality rate isn't high in younger people a lot of people just have that 'fuck everyone else' attitude.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 19/03/2020 20:31

I'm sure that more people would self isolate if they could afford to.

But £94.50/week don't pay the bills

GerardWay123 · 19/03/2020 20:37

I think they have to tomorrow. Hundreds of thousands of teenagers will not self-isolate when schools close for weeks on end.

YakkityYakYakYak · 19/03/2020 20:37

I would welcome lockdown in the same style of other European countries where people are allowed out for work, food shopping and medical reasons only. This is basically what we should be all doing anyway but I think it needs to be enforced for it to actually happen.

I would hope they find some way of managing the supermarket situation so everyone does end up going at the same time.

YakkityYakYakYak · 19/03/2020 20:38

*doesnt

Babyroobs · 19/03/2020 20:39

My teenagers have only been cooped up for a few days and they are struggling. They understand why they need to do it and thank goodness for social media but it's still hard.

Glaceon · 19/03/2020 20:45

I think they alre waiting to see what happens over the weekend. If the pubs and bars are heaving again like they have been I dont think they'll risk another weekend without it. I live right in town so will be interesting to see if its busy tomorrow night.

Also if they lock london down second home owners will flee exactly like in italy. They're already doing it in response to more rumours and stricter rules.

playingbytherules · 19/03/2020 20:53

I think so, there are still people out at the pubs and restaurants and carrying on as normal.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/03/2020 20:54

2 friends told me today their gyms are still rammed. People are still messaging me asking me to play tennis. Friends are still meeting for coffess, lunch, etc. Bonkers. Need a lockdown because people can't be trusted.

midgebabe · 19/03/2020 20:55

If we want to get this under control this side of Christmas without horrific numbers dying, we have no choice. I can't see why they haven't done it already.

GirlCalledJames · 19/03/2020 20:55

The rest of the continent is locked down, it would be irrational to think that the UK could avoid it.

andannabegins · 19/03/2020 20:58

I think they will start locking down on Monday. People aren't listening. I know someone who works in a shop and someone came in today who said her family member has corona and she is going in and out looking after her and going to the shops etc. If people don't listen then it has to be enforced

LazyFace · 19/03/2020 21:00

I hope so. And I hope it'll be very soon.

DitheringDoris · 19/03/2020 21:01

The PM has been giving us the choice all week to practice social distancing without putting harsh measures in place, basically please comply to what we are asking you to do, many people haven’t so when we go into lockdown we have only got ourselves to blame.
Some are still not taking it seriously enough to stop their oh so important social lives.

CatBatCat · 19/03/2020 21:01

No, probably not. There aren't enough police to enforce it.

Figgygal · 19/03/2020 21:02

It’ll have to be as people are continuing as normal

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2020 21:05

My brother works in the busiest restaurant here which would usually be packed over the weekend. He says there are only 2 bookings for Friday and Saturday night, so I think most people are taking it quite seriously. The streets are still quite busy though, and the shops are cleared out, so clearly been a lot of people in there, its ridiculous.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2020 21:06

That's not to say people won't just turn up at restaurants without a booking, but his hours have been cut, and they keep sending him home when he does have a shift. Supermarkets are crying out for extra workers here though, and their application sites keep crashing because there's so many people applying.

Miljea · 19/03/2020 21:07

We had a sodding power cut from 1am! Partial, half the house sockets, but the ones connected to the PCs! Two students now home; and my PC!

An electrician has rigged us up to overcome much of it; but if this is how bad it gets for us, we'll cope!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2020 21:09

The whole town next to us had a power cut today.
