Saw this and it just reinforced how fucking scummy people can still be.

Keep your wits about you still.

I read that earlier - I'm not an over-emotional person, but I honestly wanted to cry. The utter, utter scum that did that frankly deserve to catch the virus. In the normal way, everyone would be pitching in to help them restock but we can't even do that.

LangClegsInSpace · 19/03/2020 19:17

The government URGENTLY need to take control of the food supply.

TheMemoryLingers · 19/03/2020 19:21

Completely agree, LangClegs. Hate to sound like someone's granddad, but this is why they had rationing in WW2. Unfortunately people can't be trusted to be sensible and considerate.

TheQueef · 19/03/2020 20:57

Local food banks are asking for cash donations already, without being robbed.

Some are just so low they will take every single chance.

Something needs to be put in place to put basics aside for food banks before they even reach the supermarkets.

LangClegsInSpace · 19/03/2020 22:03

There will always be people who seek to extort profit from desperate people. They are arseholes. We don't have time to waste calling them out. Nobody who steals from a food bank has any shame anyway.

The bigger and more immediate problem is that there is now an exponentially growing number of very desperate people who will buy from racketeers if it means they'll be able to feed their children.

If I had battled round several supermarkets jam packed full of frightened, angry and sometimes aggressive people trying to find food for my family, only to be met with empty shelves and no guarantee there would be food next time I came, then I would buy whatever I could from the racketeers.

If the government does not get a handle on food security then things will turn to shit very fast.

Some good news on this:

Just discovered I can't link as it's on a rolling newsfeed but:

Knottingley food bank 'overwhelmed' by response after raid
Staff at a food bank in West Yorkshire have been "overwhelmed" by the public response after it was targeted by thieves earlier this week

A baroness from London has offered to pay to replace what was stolen from the food bank in Knottingley during the raid on Wednesday, staff say.

Project manager Janet Burns said: "The phone never stopped yesterday afternoon.

"We’ve had offers of quite large amounts of money and several companies offering to help."
