eBay and profiteers

I searched but couldn't find a thread, so apologies if this has already been covered. I've been hearing rumours of profiteering on eBay so went and had a quick look. It's appalling, and there is no proper mechanism to report it :(

Most are scummy individuals, the ones who have cleared the shelves of baby milk etc. But I was quite shocked to see a major pharmacy with prices 2 to 3x the normal price - how on earth is this legal and what the bloody hell is being done about it.

Check out the prices of baby formula on this pharmacy page

Or these charming lowlifes

It’s disgusting. I noticed a brand new seller on eBay yesterday shifting loads of stock. They were selling only 2 products: surgical face masks and infant Calpol 🤬

Itsseweasy · 19/03/2020 18:09

(At vastly inflated prices I should add)

RippleEffects · 19/03/2020 18:13

Its against eBay policies. They've just sent out a reminder to all business sellers that profiteering in times of crisis will not be tolerated and listings will be removed if they represent a significant price hike on the average price for their category.

If you use the report feature on any listings you see Ebay do take reports seriously.

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 18:17

@RippleEffects I've reported a few under "other" - but there is no specific report option for profiteering are loads, and from looking at the comments on the products loads of other people have been reporting them as well - they are still up and these sellers are still selling.

RippleEffects · 19/03/2020 18:22

Ive posted on the business seller forums which get a bit of eBay input so hopefully that will help direct some attention to the reports.

coconuttelegraph · 19/03/2020 18:30

Reporting the profiteers is something we could all do to help out from isolation. If people post links and eBay get lots of reports maybe the listing will be taken down.

MozzchopsThirty · 19/03/2020 18:31

Why would anyone need 'growing up milk' anyway ?????

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 18:35

@RippleEffects Thankyou
And @coconuttelegraph that's a good idea.

I'd like to see some harsh penalties for people carrying out this behaviour - as until it is stamped out - we will have stock level issues. These filth are basically stealing food from babies for profit & causing havoc in the shops.

Letters to MP?

OP posts:
rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 18:38

@MozzchopsThirty no idea. My days of babies is long gone... but I think people are just taking it all...

They had to get tough during the Second World War to stamp out black market profiteers as they caused all sorts of issues. Unfortunately I think we are seeing similar mentalities from filth who just see it as a way to make money.

coconuttelegraph · 19/03/2020 18:39

I can't see where to click to report a listing, how do you do it?

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 19/03/2020 18:39

Let's hope the scammers who claim the item received was broken, fake etc find their way to these listings.

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 18:41

8 Andrex toilet rolls for £20.99 anyone

@coconuttelegraph you have to go way down the page, it is below the message the seller button. If on the mobile site.

It's not easy and I've had to get creative on how I'm filing the report - there is option for profiteering filth bags

OP posts:
NotDisclosedToday · 19/03/2020 18:58

Thats really scummy. I dont object to people selling facemasks because they dont really do anything. But baby products is the lowest of the low.

Fuss · 19/03/2020 19:01

The 16 rolls is being bid up to stop the profiteering. It will end at thousands. Everyone needs to bid high on these, cause the sellers some headaches.

Yogawoogie · 19/03/2020 19:05

Paracetamol is going for over £100. It’s awful!

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 19:16

Apologies typo fail, there is not an option for reporting profiteers.

And ah those items being bid up is that really what people are doing? Mind you some is still selling at stupid prices on buy now.

OP posts:
RippleEffects · 19/03/2020 20:04

To report for profiteering its ebays disasters and human tragedies policy. So from each listing click the report button then:

Option 1 - Prohibited and restricted items
2 - Offensive or Violent Material
3 - Disasters and Human Tragedies.

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 20:53

@RippleEffects thank you :) I'll use that one in future and pass on the message that we can report like that.

Hopefully some measures will come in to criminalise & penalise the scum who are doing this.

My friend keeps pushing her Scentsy soap onto people, using the crisis as a way to sell her stuff- it just seems a bit off to me.

Randomschoolworker19 · 19/03/2020 21:00

These people should be put in prison.

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 22:15

From the completed Andrex listings it seems to be going from £20- £30 a pack.

I would happily bid things up to £1000 if Ebay wouldn't suspend my account for non payment.

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2020 22:23

I'm using a PC and the three report categories are copyright and trademark, listing violations and prohibited and restricted items. There is no human rights or profiteering option in the further drop down boxes.

rollingwithitall · 19/03/2020 22:34

@Gingerkittykat it doesn't seem to bring it up every time, I found calpol on sale for £40 a small bottle and could only report it as other :(

But 90% of the time it seems to work - I may have spent too much time on there tonight reporting - and I've not even dented a small portion.

It's absolutely disgusting, tins of baked beans for £3 a can. Antibacterial cleaner normally £4-5 is going for £40 plus. Paracetamol £10 a small packet.

I need a shower, I need to scrub off the filth from venturing on there. The more I look the worse it is.
