Just a reminder that you can buy loo roll and other essentials on Amazon

May be stating the obvious, but I've seen a few people stressing after trawling the shops. Plus not all elderly people are online, so if people who can use Amazon do, that can't be a bad thing. (And yes I know MN hates Amazon but needs must.)

Have you seen the price ….. £70 for 24 rolls!

bestbeforedateexpired · 19/03/2020 15:01

Sold out or extortionate prices

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2020 15:02

Yeah, looks like loo roll is the new gold! Admittedly that is a downside...

I just bought a couple of 4-packs at £7.44 each.

Wow!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/03/2020 15:05

I just looked. No toilet roll. When you search for it they suggest Harpic ‘Rim Block’. That’s one solution I suppose 😮

HoneyBee03 · 19/03/2020 15:06

I recently had a look and I can't afford £15.99 for a bottle of Dettol spray. I'll have to continue trawling the shops!

Smithesque · 19/03/2020 15:06

Yes it is important in these times teetering on the edge of recession that we support huge companies like Amazon who contribute nothing to your local economy.

On the other hand there is toilet paper made in Britain, Nova tissue paper in Oldham who assure us that there is no shortage, which might be a better buy.

Support local and help the country not sink into a hole of debt and depression.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2020 15:07

Judas ouch Grin Or but a lot of eggs, I guess. Except no eggs either....

Ordered cat litter earlier in the week from Amazon and now it's stuck somewhere in the delivery process "due to unexpected delays in the area"... It was also double the price it would usually be.

utterlybutterly8 · 19/03/2020 15:10

I just bought a couple of 4-packs at £7.44 each.

That's so expensive Shock

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2020 15:11

Smithesque bearing in mind I was trying to be helpful, just the middle paragraph would have been fine. With a clicky link if you're serious about encouraging people to buy local.

"I just bought a couple of 4-packs at £7.44 each."

A 4 pack is £1.65 in Lidl, a 9 pack is £2 and £2.50 in Superdrug. Buying from price gouging third party sellers who might have helped cause the shortage in the first place is only going to encourage them to keep doing it.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 19/03/2020 15:15

Vic, is the cat litter in lieu of toilet roll??????

amazedmummy · 19/03/2020 15:15

I bought a whole load of loo roll on groupon. Got a good deal too.

CarlottaValdez · 19/03/2020 15:17

I got some at normal price from amazon fresh.

Sandsnake · 19/03/2020 15:18

There were loads in Sainsbury’s when I was there earlier. I didn’t need any (have a few rolls left) so didn’t get any. I knew they were in demand but didn’t realise they were quite so scarce! There was also a lot of baby milk so maybe they’d just had a delivery (although there was no fresh meat / fish and very little fruit and veg).

PumpkinP · 19/03/2020 15:21

There’s none anywhere where I am. Gonna check amazon then

dementedpixie · 19/03/2020 15:24

My local corner shop had toilet rolls when the supermarket didn't. Today tesco didnt have meat, chicken, toilet roll, eggs, flour, milk, cleaning products, pasta, etc. Luckily they had wine so I bought a couple of bottles!! I did also buy a loaf of bread

DontCallMeShitley · 19/03/2020 15:41

I have too many after getting an out of stock e.mail on our regular order and buying another lot only to find that the first order became available. I hate Amazon.

I would sell them on but fear the postage would make it look as if I am trying it on.

FreyaMountstuart · 19/03/2020 16:04

Sorry but I agree with @Smithesque.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2020 16:51

Look, if people can buy local, obviously buy local! But a factory in Oldham isn't going to courier a pack of loo roll to Cardiff, now are they? And to be honest, one thing that isn't going to tip us over into recession is a lack of people buying food and loo roll in the local shops. In most places the shops are practically empty, do you understand that? And the elderly and vulnerable are getting the shitty end of the stick (no pun intended). So @Smithesque and @Freya, what should we do instead? Are you offering to pop to Oldham for me? Because that would be great. I'll give you the money, plus a bit for petrol.

Oh and @Smithesqe? I found that website, since you haven't replied with a clicky link. Look what it says:

UPDATE 12/03/2020 Due to unprecedented demand, our toilet paper products are now out of stock but we are working hard to meet current orders and get re-stocked as soon as possible. In the meantime, please bear with us. Our kitchen roll products are still readily available. In particular, there is a surge in demand for […]

Did you miss that? Hmm

Try 'who gives a crap' website for toilet rolls

Mojitomogul · 19/03/2020 16:56

Actually don't, did not realise they are out of stock on there too now!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2020 16:57

Where I am in Cardiff as of today there are no packs in Lidl. There are no packs in Aldi. There are no packs in B&M. There are no packs in Waitrose. There are no packs in Farmfoods. There are no packs in McColls. I haven't tried Superdrug, but I can hazard a wild guess as to how many packs they have. @buttermilkwaffles I'm happy to buy your supply off you at cost price, to avoid encouraging these evil price gougers.
