I think it’s quite likely that they won’t return at normal time after Easter.

But whether that means the whole summer term is anyone’s guess.

Current y11s and 13s don’t need to go back at all (they’d be on study leave and then finish early anyhow) but it will be very unfortunate for current Y10 and Y12 to lose a term

Ikeameatballs · 19/03/2020 13:08

I think September

ShanghaiDiva · 19/03/2020 13:09

After the summer.
We will cope because there is no alternative.

I feel really sad about the thought it won’t be until sept. My dd adores her key workers at pre school and has so many friends she won’t see again :(

No idea.

I have one due to start secondary in September so that's a worry.

Another one in Y10 but as in Wales was expecting to sit final for one GCSE in May already sat 1 exam and two timed assements and was hoping to pull grade up to previouly predicted level- and sit another 6 GCSE exams- the first ones- in next few weeks.

No idea if they'll be pushed to next year - in an already packed year or dropped or estimated and if we don't get a vaccine for 12 months if next years GCSE exams will also be affected. She still in a better position than pupils in year 11 many of whom expect to move on from school to other places.

Also don't know how it will affect univeristies intake next year- as DH is a lecturer that affects him.

I do think it may be longer than easter break which is what the secondary school is currently saying publicly they expect.

fedup21 · 19/03/2020 13:24

I suspect September

anothernotherone · 19/03/2020 13:24

In some countries schools are closed until September.

Our schools are closed til at least 19 April in Germany but we're being told the final exams starting in May and June cannot and will not be moved or changed under any circumstances... Hmm

InglouriousBasterd · 19/03/2020 13:34

I think May - June. They’re keen not to drag it out by all accounts. Obviously depends on the situation though, it’s impossible to really know.

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 13:36

I read online that the schools will never open again! 😐🙄

Madness.

HoffiCoffi13 · 19/03/2020 13:37

I hope they’ll reopen in June, but I suspect September.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 19/03/2020 13:38

I suspect summer holidays will be cancelled but then teachers will be in uproar and they'd have to honour holidays that parents have booked

JustFrigginNameChange · 19/03/2020 13:38

I think they should open again in July to make up lost time

ps1991 · 19/03/2020 13:40

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I doubt they'll make students and teachers go to school in the summer holidays

I think until September

ofwarren · 19/03/2020 13:41

I've a feeling it will be September.

daisypond · 19/03/2020 13:42

I would say June but who knows? It depends on how well any lockdown has worked. If schools reopen in September, that will likely be the start of a second-wave spike in the autumn. I don’t know what the solution is.

TwilightPeace · 19/03/2020 13:44

I don’t think they will be back until at least the end of this year. The repercussions of this virus are enormous.

Torvi · 19/03/2020 13:47

I am also praying for after Easter but fear it will be September Sad

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/03/2020 13:48

I suspect summer holidays will be cancelled
Our school is providing work online and support by email or telephone, everyday during normal school hours, from Monday onwards. Teachers (even the ones who are self-isolating, unless they’re actually ill) are still working and so are the students. My DDs are expected to ‘hand in’ their work via email, as normal, to ensure they are continuing their studies. It would be ludicrous to ask teachers and students to continue working back in situ from July onwards too.

Quartz2208 · 19/03/2020 13:48

Its hard to know - other countries (China/US/Italy) say they wont open before summer holidays BUT I have googled and their summer holidays appear to all start in June. Scotland start and end early as well.

So I suspect earliest will be June, possibly they might let pupils have a couple of weeks in July to finish off or it will be September.

So my hope at the moment if we can get it under control it could be June if not September

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 19/03/2020 13:50

@ps1991

I think the transitional "school holidays" definition is null and void this year.

They can't expect parents to stay off work for 6 months so the holidays will have to go

Atalune · 19/03/2020 13:50

I think September. But it’s just a hunch.

fluffiphlox · 19/03/2020 13:50

September? Maybe January? Longer than most people would wish I’m sure.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 19/03/2020 13:52

@fluffiphlox
January would be a disaster for everyone and 100% unlikely as who exactly would be able to provide childcare that long

MirandaWest · 19/03/2020 13:53

I can't see it happening before the end of the school year.
