First world stuff... but what are you doing about your cleaner if you have one?

Surely they can’t come to work? Mine wants to even though we’re supposed to be distancing.

I’ve told her that I’ll pay her regardless - my attitude is if I’m being paid she can be paid - but I think she’s feeling awkward.

I should just send her home? Or stay in a room and have her clean elsewhere?

I’ve told ours not to come but still paying her

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:00

Yes, that’s what I tried but she wasn’t having any of it. I think I’ll just pay her and send her home.

That's a really tricky conundrum, feel bad for you having to deal with it

Pepperama · 19/03/2020 00:03

Mine is still working. She’s coming when we’re out of the house. With 2x full time work and school closure it’d be a nightmare to do the cleaning too.

AndWhatNext · 19/03/2020 00:04

I am thinking of asking mine not to come but still paying her.

We had a big chat last week (she's here EOW) and she's worried about not being able to work.

I am still working and getting paid, as per @Merryoldgoat if I'm getting paid, so can she.

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:08

Actually we’ll all be out tomorrow for the second to last time so maybe she can clean tomorrow, I can pay her to end of the month and then just pay her weekly after that until this is all over.

Ok. That might work.

yeah its just awful what some people have to cope with
baahahahahahahaha

VivaLeBeaver · 19/03/2020 00:15

I’m paying my dog walker but not using her. Don’t even want her coming in the hall to pick the dog up.

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:18

@CyberNan

It says quite clearly it’s a first world problem for me. No need to be a twat.

I just want to do the right thing.

You’ve got no idea of any of the other stuff I’m dealing with.

I've cancelled mine and offered to pay them but they won't let me. I thought about leaving the house for a drive but seems like I'd still need to surfaces after they'd been.

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:25

@Imohsotired

I’m fairly certain mine will point blank refuse and just keep turning up if I give them money in advance.

She’s so lovely and kind.

I'm a cleaner. Some people have offered to keep paying me. If I wasn't socially distancing I'd kiss them. Some people still want me to come. I haven't refused because I need the money but I feel so scared.
If you can afford it tell them not to come but you'll still pay them. I think that would make everyone more comfortable.

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:29

@Northernsoullover

Ok. I’ll be firm with her tomorrow when she comes.

Currently DH and I are being paid so we can and want to pay her. We’ll reassess if that changes but it’s not likely to In the short to medium term.

NanSlayer · 19/03/2020 00:45

I'm keeping her around, because when we run out of food ...

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 00:51

@nanslayer

Are you going to... eat her?!

OP posts:
Pecially · 19/03/2020 00:55

I text my cleaner earlier to let her know that it’s ok if she doesn’t want to come, we’ll be fine, but she said she was happy to come.
I didn’t say I’d pay her for not coming though. So now I feel like a twat 😬

Northernsoullover · 19/03/2020 14:39

@Pecially I'm saying I'm happy to go but I'm not happy at all Sad

Delatron · 19/03/2020 14:41

Mine said she wasn’t coming which is fine and understandable. I’m still paying her because we can afford to buy understand not everyone will be able to do that.

elastamum · 19/03/2020 14:42

Even though they are not coming, I am paying the cleaner and the dog walker because I can afford to as I am being paid to WFH.

BlueLadybird · 19/03/2020 14:49

I know what you’re saying but turning up at someone’s house when they’ve asked you not to isn’t lovely or kind.

I’ve told mine not to come until at least April but that I will still pay (I paid a month ahead for my own convenience). If she turned up at my door like some kind of saviour or martyr I would tell her the arrangement is off.

There is nothing at all unreasonable about paying someone to not come and clean your house.

Merryoldgoat · 19/03/2020 18:45

All sorted.

I’ve told her firmly that we’re happy to pay her and she must stay home.

She understands and we’re all happy now - well, as much as we can be Sad
