Why are all these celebs self isolating?

My Twitter is full of celebs from popststars to reality stars to emmerdale actors ..all self isolating.
They don't have symptoms and they have just decided to self isolate.
Am I missing something?
I thought you only had to isolate if you had been into contact with people with coronavirus?

The clue is in the word Self

TheSheepofWallSt · 18/03/2020 23:18

Because they go to large scale events, none of which were cancelled in the last few weeks, and many of which have subsequently had confirmed cases in attendance during the infectious period.

Also I think some are conflating social distancing and self isolating.

AntibacHero · 18/03/2020 23:18

That was the advice about 2 weeks ago ... now you have to isolate for 14 days if you, or any member of your household, shows any signs of a cold or flu.
Many are now off work cos so much has been cancelled so they're basically isolating anyway.

And how do you know every person on the internets reason for staying in?

ooooere · 18/03/2020 23:18

I mean we haven't been told we must self isolate unless we have symptoms etc
They are just randomly staying in

Must be nice eh to just stay in 14 days on off chance you have been around someone with it.

You're either really bitter or extremely goady 🤔

AliBear90 · 19/03/2020 01:09

Well in all honesty if I was a celeb and therefore could afford to stay at home for the foreseeable I absolutely would to protect myself and my family

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/03/2020 01:11

Me too Alibear. It's a no brainer.

WyfOfBathe · 19/03/2020 01:15

I think that a lot of people are saying "self isolating" to mean "social distancing". A colleague told me that she's "self isolating after work" ie not socialising, she's not actually self isolating.

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 01:16

They may have been in contact with the virus, how can we tell? They usually mix with people from all over while they're working so it's likely. It sounds sensible to me to self isolate if you can, at least they won't be spreading it. It won't last forever.

'Celebs' are not immune to the Covid!

Sparklfairy · 19/03/2020 01:16

I'm 'self isolating' because I live alone and wfh. I don't have any symptoms (but Idris Elba tested positive and doesn't either). I normally go and stay with my DM roughly once a month for a few days but haven't because I'm not risking getting the bus, catching it and passing it on to her. It's really lonely and I'm going stir crazy in my tiny flat but any contact with people at this point is putting them at risk, as well as yourself. Government advice is to avoid all non essential contact and travel so if it's possible for you, why wouldn't you? 'How the other half live' isn't helpful. Sensible people are protecting others as well as themselves by staying in.

SD1978 · 19/03/2020 01:24

Because if you can, it will reduce the curve, and they won't get it at the moment. and they have the money and the resources to do so.

greenlynx · 19/03/2020 01:24

I actually think if they can stay at home and do it it’s for better for the rest - less people will catch and spread the virus.
Also they could have someone in their family pregnant, elderly or with medical conditions.

How the other half live

Are you serious? How the other half live? A huge amount of them have just had their jobs put on hold ffs. No need to be jealous.
