I know council run ones are closing. What are the private ones doing? Not got hold of mine yet

@EYProvider we are in Wales.

Just spoken to my nursery. They still don’t know if they are closing.
(Large chain nursery, in England)

I'm in Wales too. Still open as of last night. Dh is a key worker, but I'm not. I would manage easier with only one child to look after on top of working, but it will be a hard decision (even if open, do I keep her off...). I won't be sending my older dd to the emergency childcare.

Ours has closed and they’ve emailed to say we will not be expected to pay fees whilst they are closed.

OpticVA · 19/03/2020 08:21

Ours are closing and they want full fees. I just can’t do it unfortunately so going to have to give our notice and take her out. I’ve just had me hours reduced by 20% and DH looks to go a similar way so we just can’t afford. I’m devastated as she is thriving there. Hopefully can get her back in when this is all over.

We received an email saying they will update us by the end of the day and let us know what's happening going forward.
We didn't take him in today after all, there wasn't many there on Tuesday so thought there would be even less today

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 19/03/2020 08:59

@Zippy1510 @optic what kind of nurseries are they? Is big chains or small independent?

I believe legally a private nursery can stay open if it wants currently and it probably has some key worker children anyway so they will be doing a public service by keeping open and it will ensure staff are paid (rather than being made redundant).

Roomarmoset · 19/03/2020 09:49

Ours doesn't know either, said they'll call me as soon as they know. It sounds like they want to stay open. I work for the NHS so if they stay open for key workers I should be okay.

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 19/03/2020 10:40

There’s been talk of school closures for weeks so I would have thought nurseries would have reached decisions on closure before today. Appreciate it’s a complicated issue though.

Anyone got an update if indeed private nurseries can stay open?

Amibeingunr · 19/03/2020 13:39

Mine is staying open, just started a thread about it

OpticVA · 19/03/2020 13:43

@Canyoutellilikrchocolate small independent with 2 locations. Am going to email to say we just can’t afford to pay the full fees and see what our options are

Ours updated last night to say that they’re open today and tomorrow, and will send more information as soon as they can.

... Nothing yet. I’ve pulled DS out anyway this week and DH and I are juggling his care around working from home. Would be interested to know what was happening, and if there was any support for fees etc (I will pay if I need to, buy a reduction would be appreciated).

Roomarmoset · 20/03/2020 06:14

List of key workers, assuming it applies to nurseries too. It doesn't state whether it's one parent or both 🤷🏼‍♀️

Half of the population falls under this list :)

ListenLinda · 20/03/2020 07:17

I fall under that too, I work in IT and Finance. Basically making sure 3000 people get paid every week. DH works for Argos but if they decide to close the store he can go work for Sainsburys.
