How to talk to young children about this

How is everyone talking to their children about this? I have a 5 year old in Reception who has no clue what is going on other than he has to wash his hands to get the germs off.

He loves school and his friends, what do I say? How do explain why he isn't going to school after Friday? I don't want to scare him but need to say something as we would usually see friends/go out on trips/go to soft play etc if it was the holidays which obviously it isn't and obviously we can't.

I would keep it very simple. Explain that people need a bit of help to stay healthy, and that he can help by making sure he washes his hands carefully, and by staying inside/away from people for a while. I would then talk to him about some of the nice things that you will be doing. I know it’s hard, but he will take his lead from you - if you are calm, he will feel secure.

Thanks. It's so hard to know what to say but "we can help by" does sound like a good starting point.
