Does anyone think China lied about how many people died?

I've heard this from people living in China. Initially China tried covering this thing up to protect their own economy and also maybe lied about how many people it killed. If it only killed 3000 in China they wouldn't have shut down the whole country. It has caused already nearly 3000 deaths in Italy in just a small region. It desn't make sense that it only killed 3000 Chinese people.

My sister works in a hospital in sw London, officially there is 1 confirmed case in the borough. It’s not true. There are 8 in ITU itself plus 300 other confirmed positives sent home to self isolate. My sister works in maternity, she has to go into work despite her dc and dh self isolating at home with symptoms, she has to keep going unless she herself has symptoms as they are so incredibly understaffed. The hospital she works in has 12 ventilators, the planning documents say they need 256
