Have I got it? Have I f*cked up?

Last week I noticed a litle breathless when I walked to the bus from work. Nothing major, not struggling to breathe but something off. Around the same time I woke one AM with a scratchy throat that was away I think before I showered. I was also a bit warm, sweaty... put it down to the duvet, and two blankets. I've been having sore heads on and off. I've been going to work as usual, mentioned it a few times and we've all dismissed it as anxiety.

Thing is, I've woken up in the past a bit sweaty, with a scratchy throat that lasted longer, I haven't had my specs changed in years.... I get sore heads. The breathlessness is unusual. Haven't felt overly warm. No cough, other than your standard tickle or that kind when simething catches you.

I was with my mum and baby niece yesterday. I live with my 74 year old dad.

Do I have this? Have I fucked up by not isolating sooner?

I'm so worried. Do I ring 111?

Do I call work?

Haggisfish · 18/03/2020 07:24

No you self isolate for 14 days.

Haggisfish · 18/03/2020 07:24

Yes I would call work and say you are self isolating as gov suggests.

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/03/2020 07:25

Don't call 111.

Call work and self isolate for 14 days.

DianaT1969 · 18/03/2020 07:29

Your priority will be your dad. Can one of you move out? If he stays, have everything thoroughly disinfected. Warn your mum and parents of your niece to watch out for symptoms and disinfect clean where you were when you saw them

AscotHat · 18/03/2020 07:40

I feel like such a dick. I've just said to my dad and he thinks its an overreaction. I've also literally just taken my period so that might be where the headaches are coming from.

I'm.a failure. I always screw things up.

AscotHat · 18/03/2020 07:48

I've been so freaked out by it all, wiping door handles at home and work and other surfaces. I've been so worried that I'm going to get it and pass it on. How the fuck could I have got it and dismissed it as anxiety?

Foobydoo · 18/03/2020 07:49

It is so difficult.
Guildlines say high temp and persistent cough, not scratchy throat and a bit sweaty, but they are also telling us soome people are asymptomatic.
I bet half the people self isolating do not have coronavirus but will now think they are safe.
My parents are high risk so I am airing on the side of caution. I have a scratchy throat this morning so im keeping away. It is so hard and the government are shit. Flowers

Angliski · 18/03/2020 07:51

@AscotHat I wouldn’t use this as a way to be hard on yourself. We’re likely to have many more cases than official figures show. Lots of people are going to get it due to government lack of rigorous testing. Just self isolate and keep an eye out for the family x

RickOShay · 18/03/2020 07:51

You are not a failure.
It’s all very confusing. Call work first.
Is your Dad healthy in general?

DIYBother · 18/03/2020 07:53

Take a deep breath.

Have you checked if you actually have a fever, and do you have a cough? It doesn’t sound like you have the headline symptoms for CV. You should self-isolate anyway, because it’s better to take a cautious approach, but try not to catastrophise if you can help it (I know it’s easier said than done).

Call work, tell them you need to self-isolate for 2 weeks. Don’t call 111, they won’t be able to help you and will just tell you to self isolate.

If there is no prospect of your dad being able to stay somewhere else while you isolate, be extra rigorous about hygiene. Don’t spend lots of time in the same room, keep 2m away from him, use a different bathroom if you can or else clean it after every use.

Stay calm and don’t torture yourself. These are unprecedented times, and you are not to blame for the existence of CV.

Applejaxx · 18/03/2020 07:55

Your not a dick. People are so confused due to the uselessness of the government.

AxisOfDick · 18/03/2020 08:00

I’m short of breath and have been for a few days, reordered an inhaler prescription a few days ago.

Have been having headaches but thought it was stress.

No fever.

Unsupportable husband who thinks
I’m being a drama queen.

I hate him.

Onemorehitandillcrumble · 18/03/2020 08:04

Guildlines say high temp and persistent cough

*Or.

Op I’ve blamed my breathlessness for the last week on anxiety as I have a high risk DH. Yesterday my lungs started burning and by last night I was coughing, have a banging headache eyes feel gritty.

Some sites do mention sore throat in the other symptoms.
www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/symptoms-causes-treatment.html

However, someone has pointed out on here that the majority of people tested who thought they had CV have tested negative. It might be some other virus but you need to self isolate anyway just in case.

My dads getting angry. He says Im not showing the symptoms. Do I really want to cause a scene for nothing. It doesnt matter now because Ive had it for a week so I'll habe infected everyone anyway.

OP posts:
DrinkSangriaInThePark · 18/03/2020 08:19

I had a cold like this for 3 days this week. I'm better now. It was definitely just a cold, I wouldn't worry. I'd also stop worrying your poor Dad!

RickOShay · 18/03/2020 08:19

@AxisOfDick
Solidarity. Dh is being bloody annoying.
We are all going to get it is his reassuring line.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 18/03/2020 08:21

I’ve been having headaches this week and last but I know it’s due to the weather. I’m very sensitive to air pressure - too low or too high and I get headaches. It’s (air pressure) been up and down like a yo-yo recently.

Sometimes I wake up with a dry throat which can be scratchy and sore but it goes away when I drink water. Again it’s normal for me so not something I would even think twice about.

You only know yourself OP if you think the symptoms are unusual for you and if you suspect corona virus then it would be best to self isolate.

Isadora2007 · 18/03/2020 08:23

@AscotHat he’s right though- if you had it then you’re not going to pose any more risk to your dad than you have already. And you’ve been in work etc already too... so slow down and stop panicking. If you’re feeling better then stay at home for maybe 7 days- as the 14 days is to allow time for the infection to take hold and clear and yours was a while ago so 14 days from now is overkill. Continue hand hygiene for your dad in particular and stay calm.

diddl · 18/03/2020 08:36

How breathless have you been & for how long?

Was it just a one off?

Does anyone know if it's continued breathlessness or breathlessness only with exertion that's a symptom?

AscotHat · 18/03/2020 08:42

I am a very anxious person, thats part of the problem. The headaches wouldnt usually cause me a 2nd thought, neither would a scratchy throat. Probably not the fittest person in the world either.

OP posts:
Applejaxx · 18/03/2020 08:42

I’m having sinus problems at the moment, have suffered all my life with it and know that’s what it is. It causes a post nasal drip and in a few days I know I will start coughing.

It’s hard to know what to do for the best.

AnuvvaMuvva · 18/03/2020 08:45

My brother and his GF have what sounds very much like CV at the moment. They have hacking dry coughs, which hurt. Their chests and sides ache. They have a fever of over 100f. They feel awful.

I think they'd still be classed as mild cases.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/03/2020 08:46

Can we please stop giving inaccurate information. It’s 7 days from the onset of symptoms. www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Are you ill now? If your symptoms started a week ago and have stopped, you’re actually supposed to be ok to go about your day. That is with a proviso of how long you’ve been symptom free. Self isolation for more than 7 days for severe symptoms...

Have I got it? Have I f*cked up?
Theredjellybean · 18/03/2020 08:49
