Hello,

Posting here because i honestly can't make head nor tail of government advice. Dd 10 was previously been admitted to hospital with complications following a virus because of her asthma. It is now pretty well controlled but she was at death's door at one point.

I have asked her consultant whether i should be isolating her and the response was 'if you want to'. Not massively helpful.

So according to the government guidelines should i be isolating our household or not? I've read them over and over and i feel like either they don't make sense, or i've lost the ability to make sense of them.

The guidance is to social distance if vulnerable group and no symptoms.

No one is going to tell you all to isolate at the moment. You have to make your own assessment based on your own situation and the guidance. It has to be realistically sustainable as this could go on for some time.

For those with severe asthma there will be additional guidance from NHS England next week:

It's all very confusing. Asthma U.K. has a helpful section on the new guidelines.

I would say if you can isolate, then I would.

But at the moment it seems like asthma sufferers should be socially distancing themselves, and if they are in a severe higher risk category then the NHS will be in contact with instructions on isolation.

I think it could have all been much clearer than it has been, it's led to a lot of confusion.
