60 year old Dad insistent on going to the pub

What can I say to stop him. I have tried everything. He is so selfish. He lives with his 90+ year old parents.

His reasoning? "I'm going with my work mates who I'm at work with anyway"

I AM SO ANGRY. Actually cried out of frustration.

Nothing

Absolutely nothing

As he lives at home at 60+....leave them to it

Agreed. Nothing you can do. My parents are the same. Had a conversation with my mum tonight, patiently explaining why she needs to stop going out to lunches with her equally elderly friends. After agreeing, towards the end of the call (after many other topics of conversation) she tells me she’s going out with a different friend in a few days. I tell her why she shouldn’t. She says it doesn’t count because she “really wants to see her.” Then she laughed. So I told her it’s her choice, I’ve done all I can, and I’m not going to converse about this any more.

Mine won’t listen either. 69 year old asthmatic DF who goes to the pub about 4 times a week is continuing to do so...
He’s 70 in a month yet will still ignore the advice. They should shut the pubs. If only to stop our idiot fathers from going!

Moneymad27 · 17/03/2020 22:49

Loads of people won’t listen. This is the Uk, which is full of selfish people. I know some one who came back from France the other day which has many more cases than us and went straight out when they got home. Not a thought for anyone.

HollowTalk · 17/03/2020 22:53

This is why the pubs etc should be shut. If nowhere was open these people wouldn't wander the streets, would they?

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 18/03/2020 05:01

Sorry OP, that sounds so stressful for you.

Nothing you can do unfortunately unless the government forces them shut.

This image is scary though, the NHS is going to be crippled because people aren't staying home

My in laws are 70 and we are having to be quite firm with them (one takes immune suppressants to) as I have chronic asthma. From today I can work from home but we had to spend yesterday dashing around getting prescriptions etc. Turns out they took toddler DD around several supermarkets and busy spots, and then got arsey that we declined going out to lunch for mothers day because apparently 'that doesn't count'. They have announced they are also driving around 2 hours to visit family for the day. We've given lots of advice but they wont listen and we clearly cant trust them to be sensible so we wont be seeing them for a long time now

My DD works in a pub. Most of the regulars are older men who come in every day for a pint and to read their news paper. She has talked to them all about the virus and none of them plan to stop coming out unless the pub has to close. One was very alarmed at the idea he shouldn't come out for his daily Guinness.
