So what is the procedure for testing and officially diagnosing CV and counting cases?

I keep hearing in the media each morning that the number of confirmed cases has increased since yesterday by X amount and that the mortality rate is 2%.

But we’ve been told NOT to go to hospitals or walk in centres unless we are having serious problems breathing and feel gravely I’ll. we’ve been told to self isolate, treat with paracetamol and rest at home until it’s passed.

So presumably the majority of people who are able to do this and don’t require further treatment in hospital never get tested, therefore never get formally diagnosed. Therefore they don’t appear in the figures. Therefore the mortality rate is actually much, much lower than 2% in real terms.

Or am I missing something?
