A polite request to all stockpilers of the UK, I’m sure I speak for the thousands in my position but as a frontline NHS worker part of a dedicated & very tired team looking after increasingly numbers of CV patients please leave something on the shelves for us as we head home after 12hr shifts, just called in my local Sainsburys for a few bits to find all shelves/fridges/freezers bare/1 or 2 of some items.....lets share the love (or loo roll or pasta)! šŸ¤—

Ilovemypantry thanks for the tip re not using ibuprofen - I didn’t know that.

choirmumoftwo · 17/03/2020 23:50

Agree about the GF food. Pure selfishness. Coeliacs have a disease and therefore no option. If you're gluten free as a lifestyle choice or just buying it instead of the normal stuff, please stop it during this tperiod of time. My DD and many others do not have a choice.

Dollyparton3 · 17/03/2020 23:55

I sympathise with you OP. My husband and I were working g round the clock until a few days ago and seemed to miss the scram raid for food and supplies that people don't need. I've joined a local Facebook group now that I've freed up a bit of time WFH to offer to go out early in the morning and grab some bits for local folk who are quarantining. Maybe you can reach out that way? If my local relatively hillbilly town have got their stuff together to organise some teams then they can help? Lots of people are wanting to help out our emergency service teams so surely there is a way to take that opportunity

I have to go GF to help my immune system. There is still plenty of GF food about - chickpeas and other tins, millet / chickpea / GF flours, lentils, veg., fruit (mostly from Indian grocers as a lot of Gujarati foods are naturally GF). It’s the pre-made supermarket stuff that’s being sold out. We are in a crisis and while yes people shouldn’t stockpile GF stuff we should also not be relying on it being on the shelves and need to be a bit more creative.

The ibuprofen thing is false news according to the BBC.

milksoffagain · 18/03/2020 00:43

@Itslookinglikeabeautifulday please don't take ibuprofen it is being proven to make symptoms much much worse as it interferes with inflammation which is the immune system at work (something like that) It is the common denominator in young fit people who need to be hospitalised.

NeckPainChairSearch · 18/03/2020 00:46

I've bought pearl barley in lieu of pasta and rice. It's great in soup, can be made into a sort-of risotto, toasted in salad and quite a few other things. It seems to have been ignored by the stock-pilers so far.

NeckPainChairSearch · 18/03/2020 00:46

...it's also cheap as chips and healthy.

kateandme · 18/03/2020 01:58

also try petrol stations on your way home op.they were a godsend to us.
do you have any mates.or whatapp your on with some of your staff? some lucky buggers have managed to get a delivery slot.so you might just be able to get them to add some bits for you.
our local butchers have now offered to do small deliveries too.
im so sorry op.i know many people who dont work like you but cant affrod to panci buy and literally have enough money only to get a meal at a time some days!its really hard.they arenow going without.

kateandme · 18/03/2020 01:59

or stranger things have happened could you stop into the hospital canteen before you leave?or hospital shop.

LifeImplosionImminent · 19/03/2020 20:14

Someone on my local Facebook cheap shop had put 300 nappies for sale as her baby was now too big for them. She could have been telling the truth.

Who buys 300 extra nappies when their baby is about to go up a size.... Hmm

SuperlativeScrubs · 19/03/2020 20:15

I still can't believe that after a week or so people are still fucking hoarding shit! Stop! You have enough!

Potionqueen · 19/03/2020 20:42

Hospital canteens often are not open when staff leave their shifts. They tend to cater for the 9-5. And they are never open for the night shift.

Minai · 19/03/2020 21:00

My mum is a nurse. She is in her 60s and has asthma. I wish she didn’t have to work and I wish I was nearby so I could shop for her but I am 200 miles away. She told me she did a 12 hour shift and stopped by Aldi to get some food and they had nothing so she bought a toy for my little boy instead. I keep thinking about that and it makes me so sad. My poor mum.

Riv12345 · 19/03/2020 21:06

I saw a couple coming out of b&m yesterday with 2 trolleys full of toilet roll and actually squashing it in there car!! I could not believe it!!!!

I'm with you op I finished my 12 hour shift on Monday ( busy nhs Ward) nipped one local supermarket on way home. A few shelves completely empty and people still rushing to get stuff.
Please guys save some for us
