Teen with occasional asthma but no preventative

My son is 17 and as a baby he used to have severe random asthma attacks (taken to hospital in ambulance on quite a number of occasions and put on a nebuliser). He grew out of it though. For the last 10 years he’s only had difficulty breathing when he’s had a chest infection (last time was three years ago) or sometimes when swimming (he hasn’t swum for about three years either). On such occasions he saw a doctor used his blue inhaler and spacer. But he hasn’t taken a brown preventative inhaler for about a decade. Now I’m concerned if he does get Coronavirus he’ll have the same severe reaction. Particularly because, being a 17 yr old, he’s recently taken up smoking weed at the weekends (yes, I’ve given him a talking to). I blue inhalers at home and a brown preventative. Should he start the brown preventative or would that cause more harm than good? I tried to call GP last week but quite rightly they were too busy to discuss and the pharmacist wouldn’t advise me. Any healthcare advisers in the know?
