Self isolating but have to take child to doctors ?
Fidgety31 · 17/03/2020 11:49
I am supposed to be self isolating as I am unwell.
But my primary school aged son has an infection in his ear and has a drs appt.
I have no one , no family to take him.
Should I tell the surgery I am self isolating or just take him. If they don’t allow me to take him then he won’t get any antibiotics.
What would you do ?
BeansOnToast4T · 17/03/2020 11:51
You MUST tell the surgery - you can't go in if you are isolated and unwell.
pipsqueak77 · 17/03/2020 11:51
Can you call the surgery and explain? I don't think they will let you come down if you are feeling ill. Are your symptoms fever/cough etc? Our GP surgery has closed and only doing telephone appointments now. You could describe symptoms and they may prescribe over the phone and you could ask someone to pick it up for you? If you don't have anyone to help maybe try asking on a local Facebook group..? Xx

You definitely shouldn't 'just take him' if you are unwell! Ring the surgery and ask fro their advice.

Phone the GP surgery and tell them.
They will tell you what to do. They might offer a doctor's phone call and antibiotic or if they need to see him they can take protective measures.

Antibiotics can be prescribed remotely following a telephone consultation if a doctor is prepared to do this. They can also be delivered by the pharmacy. Communicate with the surgery and ask for this

I have a cold and headache . No cough or fever, but my work told me to stay home .
My son has ASD so wouldn’t go drs with someone he doesn’t know .
LRCG · 17/03/2020 11:54
Can they not do a telephone app? I know it might not be applicable though in your situation. Our doctors have sent texts out saying we must not go to the doctors but call beforehand
minipie · 17/03/2020 11:54
Ask for a telephone appt instead. The dr may be able to get enough info that way to prescribe.

Thanks for the replies
I will phone the surgery and ask their advice
