Really confused by 14 day rule

Hey,

I’ve had symptoms now for a week, children had temps on Sunday so didn’t go in to school on Monday and will be off all week. Is the 14 day rule from when the first person in the house goes down (i.e me), or is it from when anyone in the house goes down (i.e my children)? Basically, do my children need 14 days of quarantine, or only 7 as I’ve already been in quarantine for 7 days myself.

Only helpful answers would be great, as I’ve seen so many people be rude to questions like this over the last couple of days that I’m almost scared to ask Confused

Thanks!

If during the 14 days, someone else has symptoms say on day 8, then the 14 days isolation starts again from day 1.

Day 8 becomes day 1. Hth

So: it’s 7 days for you, starting from the day you showed symptoms (let’s call that day X).

14 days for the rest of the family starting from day X.

If one of the others starts showing symptoms during the 14 days, they have to isolate for 7 days starting from the day they first show symptoms. Regardless of what day they were up to. So eg if they get symptoms on day 12 of the original 14 days, they have to stay in for a further 7 days (so can go out at day X+19). But any others who don’t get symptoms don’t have to stay in any extra time and can go out again from day X+14.

Symptoms = new cough (not one you’ve had for weeks and weeks) or fever.

So applying to your situation.

You developed symptoms on Tues 10th.
Because of that, you need to stay in till 17th and they need to stay in till 24th.
They got symptoms on Sun 14th. Because of that, they need to stay in for 7 days from 14th. So 21st. That’s no later than 24th, so their symptoms don’t add any extra time iyswim. (If they’d developed symptoms on the 20th it would have added extra time till the 27th).

So you can go out from 17th and them from 24th.

What happens if we S.I. for fourteen days, but it was just a run of the mill cold, we all go back out in the world again and someone gets another cough? Will we have to do it all again? We need to have testing, we can't keep doing this on guesswork!

@minipie Thanks Minipie!

I rang the school before I posted this to see if they knew and they told me to ring 111 for more information. Classic (obviously am not going to do this!)
