No cat food

Dh and I are in self isolation. Travelled through A Spanish airport but didn’t stay in Spain, he has a cough and I have a sore throat but not been tested.
We have a cat but very little cat food and don’t have any friends/ relatives close by. No delivery slots for a week - we have a delivery booked but I’m not sure what to do until then.
What would you do?

Local community Facebook group. I am a volunteer for my local one.

Local lost pets Facebook group. Even though they aren’t specifically for this, they are populated by pet lovers and would in all likelihood help you out. Even if it was just with a bit of their own supply to tide you over until your delivery arrives.

Local church?

Amazon / online shopping.

All the best.

Thanks all, especially those that offered help. It’s really kind of you. We’re not in the UK though. Some good suggestions and only one person mentioned going to a shop - I (stupidly) thought you might all say go to a shop but be careful. I know that’s not the right thing though really. I won’t be going.

I’ll look into Amazon just in case they’ll deliver here and see what I can meal plan for us and the cat with what we have in. (Dh will not be allowed the few tins of tuna!!).

It’s heartening that some people suggest neighbours. I wouldn’t want to impose on people we don’t know but I guess it’s better than imposing the possible virus on people.

Thanks again Flowers

I use a company called monster. Maybe try that.

Goingtogetflamed · 17/03/2020 16:23

I did some more online searching and I’ve ordered some online - no idea if it’ll arrive before or after the supermarket delivery but it’s worth a shot and it’ll all get used in the end.
In the meantime DH seems to have taken a turn for the worse ☹️ I really do wish we lived closer to friends and family now!

If you have any raw meat you can feed that

Dashel · 17/03/2020 16:35

Are there any local Facebook groups that you ask for a little bit if you need some to tide you over? There is a Uk mutual aid group for most areas so I’m guessing there will be something similar in other countries

viccat · 17/03/2020 16:39

Definitely ask on your local FB group, OP! As a cat person, if I lived within walking distance from you (as I don't drive), I'd happily drop off a couple of days worth of pouches/cans at your door in this situation! I'm sure lots of others would too.

I wouldn’t want to impose on people we don’t know

The thing about pets is that they unite people in their love of them.
Cat people love all cats and will empathise with owners worried about feeding theirs, dog people love all dogs etc (and some cross over - obviously). I would always share dog food with any of my neighbours that didn't have any.

I'd share cat food too, but don't have any. Still, I'd offer up some tuna or chicken.

Madcats · 17/03/2020 16:51

Just to join in with the reassurance that I would offer a neighbour some spare catfood (or nip out to buy some).

Not ideal for any length of time, but you could cook them some human meat - mince or chicken or fish. Just make sure there is no garlic or onion in it.

Lozz22 · 17/03/2020 16:54

Do you have any rice? It's not the greatest alternative but I know when my Cat had some tummy issues and was vomming his Cat biscuits back up I stuck him on boiled white rice and chicken for a few days. Probably tastes bland and horrible for them but if feline is hungry I'm sure they'll eat it and not be too fussy
