Yeah I know not essential but are we really supposed to not get a haircut for 12 weeks?

I just ordered a set of hair clippers from Amazon for DH and DS. £15 so not too expensive (less than the price of two barbers cuts actually!)
I have shoulder length hair and there’s no way I would attempt to cut it myself so I will just have to wait!
Haircuts do not come under ‘essential’ social contact!!

willdoitinaminute · 19/03/2020 15:17

My DS 15 is off school today due to staff shortages and along with using the shower without being told to has managed his school work and asked to have his haircut since he may not be able to have it cut for three months.
I suspect he has a future in Emergency planning.

IpeartreeI · 19/03/2020 15:34

I've just done ds2's hair with the clippers. Dh clippers his own. I have short hair which will need doing at some point, so I might just have a go myself with the longest clipper attachment and see how it goes. It'll grow back 😀

I did but she has had a baby so hasnt had it cut in 6 months and has been suffering with bad mental health. It's a bit of a catch 22.

So she will potentially take it home while she is caring for a baby? 🤦🏻‍♀️ There is no catch 22, tell her to stick it in a ponytail for a few weeks.

Yesterdayforgotten · 20/03/2020 13:02

I tried @WeAllHaveWings
I explained the serious risks but she said she is already in isolation in normal life as never goes out much and wont be going out anywhere after the haircut or seeing anyone who will be in contact with any high risk people, she claimed her and baby low risk...she had it cut today and said it was a dry cut and took minutes Shock

halcyondays · 20/03/2020 13:08

I haven’t had a haircut in about two years so 12 weeks won’t bother me.
None of us gets our hair done very often anyway.
My 85 MIL will miss having her hair done but she’s being sensible and avoiding social contact and her hairdresser is stopping anyway as she’ll have kids at home.

userxx · 20/03/2020 13:10

I'm getting my hair done this weekend.

managedmis · 20/03/2020 13:15

Neighbour bought some clippers

To be fair her son did look like Dougal

LittleLittleLittle · 20/03/2020 13:15

@WeAllHaveWings the baby will likely be fine, the mother... well.

NettleTea · 20/03/2020 13:15

Im not sure anyone will care what haircut you have when you are in ICU

Yesterdayforgotten · 20/03/2020 13:25

LittleLittleLittle she is actually a really good mother. To be fair my sister def not the only one (not that it makes it okay.) More importantly why haven't they closed pubs yet?!

Lieinrequired · 20/03/2020 13:25

I am getting DD2’s haircut. She has SN. There is one hairdresser who can cope with her. DD has short hair because she cannot deal with knots or having her hair tied up. So I have booked her appointment for as soon as I could get. Then we will be ok for 2-3 months.

I would prefer to stay away from all shops but the next few months are going to be hard enough with DDs SN. Going direct from the car to the hairdresser and then back to the car is a risk I am going to take before there is much further spread.

Yesterdayforgotten · 20/03/2020 13:29

Lieinrequired yes that is exactly what my sister did, she went from car to see one hairdresser and said no colouring and apparently it was a quick dry cut that took minutes then straight in car and home. She said she will now wait a few months. I am lucky I had my hair cut before it got so bad and I can wait until things have calmed down before I get it done again.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 13:30

No hair cuts. Just no.

My hairdresser is fucked financially, she needs the business. Not everyone who gets this virus is going to end up in ICU - we've been told the majority will have mild symptoms.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 20/03/2020 13:32

Yes hairdresser's are on essentials list, perhaps France?.

It's all part of mental health. Ours our only having 2 clients in at once.

Wear masks. Use alcohol gel. Wash chairs and equipment down between each client.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/03/2020 13:34

Too many people are still not getting this. It is terrifying people will die because someone couldn't do without a bloody haircut.

Be the one that stayed away. Be part of the solution not the problem!!

Absolutely should not be getting your hair done right now.

But I would urge you to pre-pay for your next appointment, especially if you go to small/independents. Hairdressers will be struggling in this situation, but a cash advance could make the difference.

ILLBESUZIE · 20/03/2020 13:43

I'm growing out a pixie so this self isolation couldn't t have come at a better time for me. I'm going to look hilarious but I'd rather be heathy and help others remain healthy too.

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 20/03/2020 13:47

Is the hair dresser Inspector Fucking Gadget with extendable arms such they can keep the minimal distance?
🤣

DH has offered to give mine a trim for me. I think I will just live with it. A few split ends is not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.

DesLynamsMoustache · 20/03/2020 13:49

Clippers for short hair. Long hair can just grow.

My DH has done his own hair for years anyway as he hates paying for it! And I'll just let my hair grow a bit, and DD's we can trim ourselves if we need to.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 20/03/2020 15:04

DS wants to cut his brother's hair. I am tempted to let him.
