Multi billionaire. Owns his own island. Doesn’t live in the UK and doesn’t pay taxes on his income. WHY is this shite Govt. even considering the British tax payer bailing his company out. Surely, he has some company reserves, squirrelled away during the good years?

People are going to be made homeless here. People will have to live on £94.00 IF they’re lucky. Medics will have to choose who gets the ventilator IF there’s a nurse to operate it. And Grant Shapps says WE should bail Branson out. Shame on them.

Air travel powers the economy. Something will need to be done to shore up the big two.

Remember last year, when everyone was finding excuses not to cut down on air travel and save the planet ?

With each passing day, and each easing gasp of the planet, the global attitude to air travel is going to shift (if it hasn't already).

Going back, it was often said that if tobacco had been introduced in the 20th century, it would have been banned immediately.

I wonder if there is a similar school of thought about mass longhaul air travel ?

I notice that in the US, Mitt Romney has proposed giving every citizen $1,000 to help keep the economy going. Obviously that can't happen here. But it shows that you're going to hear some surprising ideas from some even more surprising places.

feral bankers plunder the public purse for all its worth

Others have already noted:

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

Bit too Corbyn, really. We're already outspending him - need to be careful in case anyone thinks his other ideas may have been worth trying.

I find it incredible that large companies are asking their employees to take unpaid leave yet somehow individuals are expected to continue paying their cleaners etc

Not sure why. It's been like that for years.

One thing this little diversion is doing, is highlighting to a lot of people exactly how bad the little people have it. There will have to be a shit load of feel-good-TV to allow them to forget it again.

“ I read this over the weekend that Virgin were to ask the government for £7 billion for the airline industry. Its absolutely disgusting that giving them anything would be considered. Especially when so many people are losing their jobs, small businesses etc may go under and absolutely NOTHING is given to the self employed people of this country who pay their taxes and National Insurance contributions etc.
What's more ludicrous is that these massive national and international companies are allowed to operate the way they do constantly in the red with directors and CEOs on million pound salaries and yet no cash reserves for emergencies. They then ask their staff to take unpaid leave. First thing they do is ask the government for money.... yet the government can't help the self employed. Disgraceful. Did nothing change after the collapse of Monarch, Thomas Cook, Flybe...”

Absolutely yes to this 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ridiculous to even consider this ffs. Ordinary people on min wage zero hours were being castigated on here the other day for not wanting to take on credit card debt to pay their rent. Anybody worth over a billion should not be going round with their hand out right about now looking for money when so many ordinary people are facing financial ruin. The fact that he even thinks it’s appropriate to broach the subject shows how completely cut off from reality he is. Pay your staff branson you piece of shit

And we can thank Mr Branson and his company who sued the NHS and received a huge payout over lost contracts to provide nhs healthcare. How many ventilators and nurses to operate them might that £2 million have bought?

The man is a disgrace. Pay your own staff, Mr Branson they are not OUR employees.
