Just recieved a email from Jonnie Boden to say they are closing all stores from tomorow until 27th
I hope the staff will not be out of pocket.

Hopefully all decent employers will support staff as far as they're able.

Until our government imposes a total lock down, we as responsible businesses, neighbours, colleagues - we can all take individual action and collectively do a self-imposed lockdown to protect one another, help our NHS face the hell that awaits it in the next days and flatten the curve.

I sadly think the NHS will start cracking in 10 days or less if they don’t start testing front line staff immediately.

Boden is really not a zero hours contract type of place.

Are you sure about that? It's a common assumption that more expensive companies treat their staff better, but that's not how it works.

I'd be 'shocked' at this point if any retailer of non-essential goods which has online service wasn't shutting its shops.

Most places won't close until they're forced to by the government. All the shops around here are open and plan to remain so until they have to close or the owners have to isolate.

@TonyChestnut I know you were joking but it occurred to me that I bet all the DIY stores will see a massive upturn in sales in the next two days in prep for self isolation.
And Kindle/audible book sales should be going through the roof

I have 3 children. The one who works for the nhs will be fine. The other two’s employers will most certainly close, if not permanently, at least temporarily! Neither of them are ill, so can’t see them getting statutory sick pay, but have no information on what if any payments they will be entitled too! Even if they were told they will get universal credit, how long would it before this would kick in, plus it wouldn’t pay their bills, never mind food!

If by “citing corona pandemic” they mean no one willing or able to bail them out with more money then yes a couple of weeks corona uncertainty has broken an otherwise solid business 🙄, nothing else. The fact is that many, many retailers are/were already living hand to mouth with restructured debt, this is just the last straw. It’s truly awful for all involved but let’s not pretend to be shocked and surprised at the inevitable headline news of familiar names going under over the coming weeks and months.
