What if somebody is already ill?

One thing I'm a bit confused about, and apologies if it's been brought up elsewhere. DH got sick Tuesday last week with coronavirus type symptoms. He's been keeping to one room as much as possible, although we have had some contact with him. I've kept pre-schoolers away from childcare today, but they did go at the end of last week, I have been to work and oldest has been to school since DH got ill. DH is still unwell. When do we count as day 1 for the start of the isolation of the healthy ones? Last Tuesday? Or today?

I think it's 14 days from the onset of their symptoms, as they class it as 7 days for them to have it, and seven days for you. But obviously increase time if any of you do get ill and remain ill.

Personally I'd count last Tuesday as Day 1. So you are all at home for another week yet, plus I'd expect cross-infection to start showing about now.

Yes, I think last Tuesday too, and then add on time if anybody else gets sick. So at the moment, only eight days. That makes me feel slightly less panicky!

I'm torn between wanting us all to get it now (no underlying health problems) to get it over and done with, even if that means longer at home, and not wanting us to get it, but risking getting it later.

We're confused too. DH started with a cough last Tuesday night and had decided to take 7 days off sick (due to go back on Wednesday) . He's self employed and is currently sub contracting to a small company. He has been completely well since Sunday. Does he have to stay off now for another 7 days after Wednesday and do I have to do 14 days in total? I have no idea.
