Has it mutated to a throat thing in UK?

I have had a killer sore throat for a few days, lots of other symptoms too (incl.chills and fever now) but not much of a cough.

I've seen a lot of other posters reporting sore throats as a main problem, and I know of friends and others nearby with killer sore throats and runny noses at present.

Could CV have mutated and now these are the main symptoms for people here in the UK?

Don't forget coughs, colds, sore throats are all common at this time of year too even if there was no Covid 19 a lot of people would have sore throats, however they probably wouldn't be talking about them so much

It's not a mutation. A sore through IS one of the symptoms - just not a core one.

sore throat has always been a symptom

I was just about to start a post asking if a sore throat alone was cause for concern. I've had one for a few days that just doesn't seem to go away - it's no better but no worse either.

From what I’ve read it usually starts with a sore throat. It’s just a fever (usually starting around day 5, and can be intermittent after that) and a weird cough is what distinguishes it from most other respiratory illnesses.

There are about handful of corona viruses that cause the common cold so you could have one of them, simply a rhinovirus or another one.

As no-one knows just stay away from people.

kirinm · 16/03/2020 11:27

What do you mean by "weird" cough? Does it have a particular sound?

defthand · 16/03/2020 11:34

Very, very involuntary cough — this guy talks about it a lot in his symptoms diary:

Also got a wierd sore throat here, as have a couple of my friends, and DC1 who also had what I thought was a tummy bug and a headache last week. Don't know if I'm being paranoid about it but it does feel like a sore throat I've never had before.

I've got a cough & slightly blocked up nose, no temperature or chills. I'm staying at my mum's so am trying to keep out of her way by staying in my room other than mealtimes when I eat my meals on a tray at the opposite end of the room & then come back upstairs.

I had a horrendous throat thing a couple of weeks ago, I was so ill and couldn't get out of bed for days. I also had bad headaches, fever, nausea and was so exhausted. My sister saw a Dr on TV saying some people have only these symptoms and she's wondering if that's what I had.

Hugglespuffed · 16/03/2020 12:42

I have a sore throat too. My anxiety is through the roof not being sure if I should be self isolating. I wish they would test more people.

Toothsil · 16/03/2020 12:53

@hugglespuffed I've just had to pick DD up from school with a sore throat and headache and slightly warm to the touch, now unsure as to whether to keep her off for self isolation...
