Children who get free school meals

Should schools close, I'm finding myself increasingly concerned for those children whose parents cannot afford to feed them. Free school meals are a life saver. I wonder if there will be anything in place to support those families.

Free school meals are a life saver. I wonder if there will be anything in place to support those families. I’d be very surprised if there was. Looking after the sick and needy doesn’t seem a huge concern of the present government.

Exactly. Many people rely on food banks and will still need access to food during this time, how on earth are they going to manage?

Sirzy · 16/03/2020 08:07

There needs to be something somehow. Locally a lot of breakfast and lunch clubs are put on in libraries and places to help those who need help to ensure they can feed the family over holidays. These won’t be able to happen now though probably.

I think all those who are lucky enough to not have to worry about things like this need to make sure we donate to food banks and similar as much as possible at this time

I think best advice at the moment would be that those who can, donate what they can to local foodbank

A few of our local schools have arranged for tesco vouchers for FSM children in the event of closures, hoping the others follow suit. We fall into the FSM bracket but would just about be OK, but that's only down to extremely strict budgeting and planning on my part. I have been in a position before, as a single mum where I couldn't manage and school holidays were very difficult, and I promised myself I wouldn't ever be in that position again no matter what.

Wow @MitebiteonFrightNite that's fantastic👏

Our local Labour Party group has a face book page for volunteers to donate and deliver food to people who need it, as well as other support during this awful time.
