In case anyone else is interested groups are springing up on Facebook called “ covid-19 mutual aid”. If you search for this along with the name of your town/city. I’ve joined my local one and it has hundreds of members. Reassuring to see how many kind people are out there offering to help.

If you require help shopping or collecting medication, or even if you’re isolated and just want to talk to someone this is here for you

Thank you for this - I was hoping people would look to volunteer like this.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 16/03/2020 02:46

No problem, hopefully people needing support will benefit from this

Well done all who can help. My only hope is that the helpers are identified and not impersonated by those of a criminal mind. I imagine someone handing over a shopping list along with a credit/debit card or cash and losing out big time. It’s a horrible thought but there are horrible people around only too happy to fleece the elderly and vulnerable.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 16/03/2020 04:22

Oh @happydaysarehere I hadn’t thought about that. I’m not organising just a volunteer but will ask that question. It’s sad to think this could happen, but yes it’s realistic :(. At the moment the level of volunteers is high and those needing support is very low, I imagine this will change though.

Thanks for sharing this @thepigeonsarecoming. Really positive thing that hopefully many of us can tap into. It's nice to think that I may be able to help people in a practical way rather than spending too much time reading scary stuff.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 16/03/2020 04:37

No problem @mrscat1 :). I live a distance from my family so I can’t help them, but maybe can help others. Again though I’m taking no credit, I don’t know who set this up
