I wonder if Boris wishes he'd left Theresa May to it a bit longer...

What do we think?

What would she have done so far? Or would it be no different?

OP posts:
Redshoeblueshoe · 16/03/2020 01:19

I hope TM has a massive stash of gin Grin

vingt · 16/03/2020 02:16

She'd find solace in a wheat field.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/03/2020 02:49

I think she would have followed WHO advice and used this to reverse or soften brexit

TooGood2BeTrue · 16/03/2020 03:38

No, because he is too full of himself.

LangSpartacusCleg · 16/03/2020 03:42

I think Boris is very happy where he is. I can see him in Downing Street trying to channel Winston Churchill.

Popsandevie · 16/03/2020 03:43

Curious. People admonished Boris for ignoring the advice of 'experts' over Brexit. He is now following the advice of 'experts' but that is the wrong thing to do clearly. Where can we find the right experts?

TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 03:53

Johnson is telling other European leaders to follow WHO advice whilst ignoring all of it himself.

Popsandevie · 16/03/2020 04:00

@TwelveIslands Is if possible that our needs and requirements are different to the rest of Europe? Does one size fit all?

Notimeforaname · 16/03/2020 04:01

He's an awful eejit Grin

HappydaysArehere · 16/03/2020 04:01

Oh! For the days when all we had to worry about was Brexit and Boris Johnson/Corbyn. Surprising how all that rubbish has paled into insignificance.

vegansprinkle · 16/03/2020 04:54

The man is just.... aaaarrrrggghhhhh

He actually turns my stomach. And I have a strong gut.

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 05:00

He is now following the advice of 'experts'

He is NOT following the advice of 'experts'. WHO are the experts on pandemics, which is why the rest of Europe and other countries are listening to them and following their advice.

todayisnottuesday · 16/03/2020 05:02

Does one size fit all?

In a pandemic, yes.. You go with the leading evidence, if not then a gamble is being taken.

severalboxes · 16/03/2020 05:27

TM would be flapping around but at least her cabinet had more competent and experienced people in it.

Johnson is vain. He wanted to be PM for self-aggrandisement, not to make the world a better place. I don't think he really cares.

NoNeedToBeRudeDear · 16/03/2020 05:34

If course he doesn’t. BJ is a malevolent self serving arse who only wanted to be PM for the sake of having the job!

He won’t give a tiny shit about people dying as long as the people relevant to him are kept safe.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 16/03/2020 05:35

I don't think she would be doing any better than he is - and I know people have massively varied opinions on the way he's handling it but I think we're doing the right thing.

borntobequiet · 16/03/2020 05:44

Anyone who thinks we’re doing the right thing should take a look at this
maths.qmul.ac.uk/~vnicosia/UK_scientists_statement_on_coronavirus_measures.pdf

GiveHerHellFromUs · 16/03/2020 05:49

That's just a list of people using their job titles for their own agenda @borntobequiet. People have to get sick for us to build immunity and be able to fight the illness. It's the same as chicken pox as a kid. Yes it's shit that people will suffer and some people will die but hiding from it just means we'll drag it out for longer.

What do you suggest? Self-isolating til we find a vaccine? Who are you going to test the vaccine on? Can we be on lockdown for the months or years that'll take? Should we all just put our lives on hold until then? It's not feasible.

longwayoff · 16/03/2020 06:45

Thanks OP, thread title made me laugh. "Be careful what you wish for as you will surely get it". Grin

Theduchessstill · 16/03/2020 06:55

I think he's pissed off that this crisis has spoilt his fun. It's not one he can solve with a snappy slogan and and it's not what he signed up for I agree with the poster who said TM would have gone with the WHO advice and done the necessary re Brexit.

LellyMcKelly · 16/03/2020 07:03

Boris spent the whole of his election campaign hiding in fridges, refusing to be interviewed by anyone other than Philip Schofield, avoiding debates, and running away from ever having to explain himself or be held accountable. This is who he is. When somebody shows us who they are, believe them. Boris is nothing more than a pissed up mouthpiece for Dominic Cummings. This is stone cold Darwinism - survival of the fittest. This isn’t about herd immunity. It’s about thinning out the herd. I wasn’t a fan of Theresa May but at least she would have been out front and centre on this.

chomalungma · 16/03/2020 07:06

When somebody shows us who they are, believe them

This.

At least he's realised that Government Ministers should be on the media including the Today programme.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/03/2020 07:16

"That's just a list of people using their job titles for their own agenda"

Experts will always give their titles, so people can check their record of work and see they are not just internet randoms with no relevant qualifications

The WHO & other experts will be well aware of any point about immunity that anone on MN can raise
It's not like they forgot this

The WHO don't give a damn about national politics, since they represent all countries,
so it's not that they are against Boris or the Tories.

The concern is that UK experts have a very different strategy from the experts almost everywhere else in the world,
including countries who've had more experience with this and other epidemics

We don't know how this different strategy will effect the eventual death rate

Looking at the different countries and their death rates, clearly government policy and the capabilities of the health service & public health organisation matter.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 16/03/2020 07:25

People have to get sick for us to build immunity and be able to fight the illness. It's the same as chicken pox as a kid. Yes it's shit that people will suffer and some people will die but hiding from it just means we'll drag it out for longer

Dragging it out longer is entirely the point. It gives the hang services a chance to treat everyone that needs it, giving everyone the best chance of getting through this. The alternative is doctors choosing basically who lives and who dies.

MindyStClaire · 16/03/2020 07:28

I find it interesting that Boris's experts are saying something so different to the rest of the world's experts.

I hope he's having some sleepless nights. If he keeps with this strategy we'll be able to tell very quickly if he was right or not.
