Sore throat, runny nose, chills NO cough?

So I have a sore throat, v runny nose, chills, aches and pains. Not aware of a temperature yet. I have NO cough.

Could this be coronavirus? Or do I just have a v bad cold?

Do you have to have a cough with coronavirus?

I am feeling so torn - I should probably stay at home tomorrow just in case, but I really feel this isn't coronavirus and everyone at work has such a strong work ethic that I will feel like a real slacker if I don't go in.

I know everyone will say stay at home, but now I'm faced with it, I just feel like such a slacker....

The cough is absolutely indicative as far as I have been able to see. It’s a respiratory virus - sore throat isn’t a symptom and I don’t think a runny nose is either.

Chills could indicate a fever. Can you take your temperature?

Symptoms are a new, persistent cough and/or a fever (temperature over 37.9 I think in adults, lower in children). If you have EITHER, you MUST isolate for 7 days. Isolation means staying indoors for 7 days. No excuses.

Sore throat and running nose absolutely can be a symptom of it, I seen a graph and they were about 30% of cases had those. Unfortunately it's actually quite hard to know if it's the common cold or CV. Stay at home to be sure.

My work policy is any upper respiratory symptoms stay away for 7 days. I'm really surprised any organisation is doing anything less at the moment.

Sore throat definitely can be a symptom, runny nose less certain but why would you want to risk the health of your colleagues some of whom might have underlying health conditions you are unaware of?

Stay home, call HR in the morning.

Stay home and screw everyone's work ethic. Government advice is to stay off if you have a temperature. Why do the opinions of your colleagues matter more than the official government advice?

Thanks everyone. NHS111 website is not bothered if you don't have a cough or fever. I don't think I have a temperature right now but I do have chills (I'm freezing and teeth chattery) - so I'll take temperature tomorrow after a sleep and when I can find the thermometer! (I feel too crap now to find it to be fair). If there is no fever, 111 says risk is really low.

I'm torn, something is still telling me I should stay off work. There was a case of CV in one of my work places (but it's a huuugge workplace - think uni campus size) but NHS 111 website doesn't ask this.

I have never taken a day off sick for a cold before, and given NHS 111 syas nothing to worry about, I feel I should go to work. But no one will.tgha j me if I have got it....

Oh such a worry. Have no idea what to do!

Stay off, the fact that you're freezing indicates a temperature.
A poster on another thread saud she was a confirmed tested case and had no cough.

I 'd think chills means you have a temperature. I don't have a recognisable temperature but have been feeling alternate hot & cold and night sweats. Sore throat can definitely be a symptom.

Coronovirus aside, you sound poorly enough that I, nothing personal, wouldn't want you in work anyway...

I'd stay home if I were you. Can you check your temp, chills indicate fever .

You sound poorly enough to be at home regardless! I hate it when colleagues with streaming colds come to work and infect us all. Stay home and rest, hope you feel better soon

Here’s a comparison of the virus vs flu and the common cold from the WHO. Irrespective of which one you have, you don’t sound well enough for work.

Chills and chattering teeth sound like a fever. Please find your thermometer so you can check if you need to self isolate for the full 7 days as it sounds like you probably do. I’ve just read a diary of someone who has it, his temperature varied quite a lot and would be normal and then shoot up later in the day so whilst you sound like you have. Fever you should check it.

If you're freezing and teeth are chattering I guarantee you have a temperature (unless you've been outside all day! Hmm)

Stay off work and rest up.

Sounds almost like a bug I had a short while ago. 111 advice has changed since then but I stayed home as I just felt so rotten. I'm afraid it took me (healthy middle aged) almost a week to get over it.

I am convinced I did NOT have Covid-19. No respiratory problems and mild cough only.

I would speak to your manager before you go in and let them make the decision.

Half my office had this last week including me! Felt the chills but no fever. Sore throat. Runny nose. Lasted 3 days then back to normal. Sounds like the normal bug doing the rounds to me!

Find the thermometer- it deffo sounds like your “chills” is in fact a normal body reaction to a temperature. So you need to know- or just stay off if you really can’t face finding the thermometer you are poorly enough to miss work.

I know several people with this, including my elderly mother. Exactly this.

I googled the data from China and it does seem a minority of patients to suffer this way

Stay at home for 7 days but it’s very unlikely you have it. Better to be safe but you are probably fine!
