To send my kids to school tomorrow?

Anyone think I'm unreasonable to send my kids to school tomorrow?

Curious if anyone is keeping their kids off?

Part of me wants to just keep them home but I also don't like breaking the rules.

Mine are going. Year 11 and year 12 here so important times. Poor year 11 DS2 is worried and it's sad because it's hard to reassure him when we don't know what's coming. We will just take each day as it comes....

missnevermind · 15/03/2020 20:50

I was going to make a decision next weekend but the primary school is closed for a deep clean tomorrow as somebody has tested positive. And my 8 yo now has a temperature. My elder son has type 1 diabetes I have health issues and my 75 yo dad lives with us.
Decision time tomorrow night I think.

MummyPop00 · 15/03/2020 20:52

Nope not sending in.

Not convinced the Government’s strategy of infecting all ‘healthy’ people ASAP will stop a run on the NHS.

Would have preferred an official option to home tutor as of now for those who can. That would help slow things down.

Sport is cancelling, why aren’t schools? It’s inconsistent at best.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/03/2020 20:53

I'm sending mine in as long as school is open, as I'm a single parent and I need to go to work or the rent and bills won't get paid.

Keeping mine home, teacher happily gave me homework pack for him last week. He is primary 1 and age 5

DelurkingAJ · 15/03/2020 21:18

Sending ours to school and Nursery. DH is still teaching and I will go to work. No underlying health conditions and no known local cases. It could go on for months...

Reginabambina · 15/03/2020 21:19

A lot of people are keeping children off as they at risk/in contact with someone that is.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 15/03/2020 21:20

Totally doable to home educate using resources, games, lesson planning available online if you’re able to be at home without working. Many of course will be obligated to be at work, but the government really should have enabled a new school code for temporarily home educated to enable schools to easily authorise. Would keep vulnerable children (or vulnerable parents) safe and slow the spread.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/03/2020 21:20

Weve had an e mail from the school saying open as normal

Twasbambam · 15/03/2020 21:21

No mine aren't.

Some very worrying noises coming from the Chinese medical community re: survivors health. Male infertility. Life limiting respiratory conditions.

Only a third of cases have so far resolved worldwide, we just don't know the long term implications of catching cv yet.

I won't be risking dc's future health. They will have a 'fever' for the next 7 days. A 'cough' for the 7 after that. I doubt very much schools will still be open after Easter holidays.

colditz · 15/03/2020 21:22

No. The WHO think we are mad, keeping the schools open. Who do you trust more,Boris "Fuck the NHS" Johnson or the World Health organisation?

SleightOfMind · 15/03/2020 21:34

I’m sending mine in as we are all in a low risk category and all our friends and loved ones who are high risk are isolating.
I am making them practice effective hygiene before getting on public transport etc though.
Schools are such a hotbed of infection and, whilst I’m resigned to us catching it, I don’t want to spread it any further.
Hands gelled at pick up, before getting the bus, hands washed/gelled after leaving the bus and going to the library park etc.
It’s a pain but, if the infection rate gets too high, we’ll effectively be left without a viable healthcare system.

copycopypaste · 15/03/2020 21:37

Mine are going in as per normal

HotPenguin · 15/03/2020 21:38

I'm trying to make up my mind up right now. I was planning to send them but I've learnt another child is ill with possible symptoms. And our local area is one of the areas with the highest cases at present. So possibly about to change my mind.

buttonmoonb4tea · 15/03/2020 21:46

We're self isolating, for 14 days then will see what the state of play is.

I do not want to send my children to school while there is a pandemic. What the government are doing is madness!!

QueenBlueberries · 15/03/2020 21:49

For those saying there are no cases in my area, you know that the NHS doesn't test anymore don't you, except on those requiring hospital treatment? So we have absolutely no idea how many people in the UK currently are showing symptoms of COVID19. No idea.

indemMUND · 15/03/2020 21:49

I'm keeping mine off. I am asthmatic and have what I think is a chest infection. I walk two miles back from drop off and two miles again for pick up and I don't think I can manage it at the moment. I do this 5 days a week. Taxi there so DD doesn't have to walk, and taxi back for the same reason. I'm starting to think I can't take the risk as it stands going on because I'm a single parent. If I go down worse than I am at the moment who will take care of DD?

indemMUND · 15/03/2020 21:50

If you and your children have no health issues, keep going. Some people won't be able to.

Sexnotgender · 17/03/2020 14:26

Spoke to my daughter’s guidance teacher. School has 500 pupils missing today, I think the roll is around 1400.

1980sQueen · 17/03/2020 14:31

I'm keeping all 3 of mine off until further notice due to my youngest child having respiratory problems associated with his disability.
Thankfully all 3 schools (high school, primary and special) have been very understanding and authorised all 3 absences.

I think every parent just has to make their own personal decision based on their own circumstances and what is right for their own family.
No-one should judge you either way.
Just do what feels right for you.
To be fair if my youngest was healthy I'd probably have kept sending mine.
