How much are the media to blame?!

DH thinks they're the reason behind all the panic and it should have been reported better from the start.
I argued saying they're only reporting facts, but I've noticed that they're now omitting who's dying and that's adding to panic.
Wannabangbang · 15/03/2020 19:12
I happen to agree, the tabloids always sensationalise everything and tbh it hasn't helped my anxiety at all. I don't know whats true or whats being blown out of proportion. On one hand we are being told to keep our kids at school and on the other hand a load of scary stuff so yes i think they should publish truths only not half truths or ott headlines
Glowcat · 15/03/2020 19:14
The media do sensationalise things but Italy is on lockdown. This is a case where the reaction is justified.
CheekyMango · 15/03/2020 19:15
I think they're failing on their duty of care and when this all blows over should be held to account?
Glowcat · 15/03/2020 19:28
‘when this all blows over’
A European country is basically under house arrest. Don’t be an arse.
SpeedofaSloth · 15/03/2020 19:40
I'd like to see the media reporting total cases, percentage mild/ moderate/ critical condition, and numbers recovered. That would possibly be a bit more balanced.
IceColdCat · 15/03/2020 19:43
I'm not usually one to defend the media, but in this case I think it is justified. There are still a lot of people going around saying it's only like flu.
BlueBirdGreenFence · 15/03/2020 19:44
What specific things that have been reported do you think have been exaggerated? Genuinely curious. Or are you saying you think that the general public shouldn't be told what's happening in detail?
Kmx123 · 15/03/2020 19:47
Numbers dont lie
Look at italy and chine the uk is not immune
CheekyMango · 15/03/2020 20:12
@IceColdCat 80% of cases are mild flu symptoms
