Just this. AIBU to think this was just plain irresponsible! FFS. We live at the other end of the country and can do nothing to help. Am fuming at the stupidity. Also cross that the church was even open. She's 80+ and lives alone.

DH spoke to her. They advised over 70's to stay away.

I think you should let her do what she wants. at 80 she has earned that right not to be spoken to like shes stupid or a child. I'm sure she is well aware of what is going on and has seen the news like everyone else.

reality check aswell she is not definitley going to die even if she does get it. the stats they're not reporting is how many have recovered from it.

do some research and stop spreading this scare mongery shit.

human race will kill itself by sheer stupidity and ignorance before any virus does.

Fuming at the stupidity? That isn't how I would speak about anyone I love Sad The woman is 80, if church is important to her in general then she will be wanting to go more than ever now! Maybe look at other ways to support her, like arranging home delivery of a few essentials, rather than berating her.

My mum's attitude is business as usual. She's 80, and in her words 'I couldn't give a flying fuck when you're as old as me, you've had good innings!' It's the first time I have ever heard her swear ShockGrinGrin she'll continue to see her maker, she's a feisty one so I think CV-19 might be too frightened to go near her Wink.

My mum went to church today, they washed their hands on the way in and way out, they also held a meeting and church 'elders' are responsible for checking up on older and vulnerable members of the church. For many of these people it will be their family, and an absolute lifeline.

You need to take your head out your arse OP.......life goes on no matter what the current virus doing the rounds.
More people die each day from suicides and cancer than they are of Coronavirus.

As for 'irresponsible'......funny how nobody is getting their knickers in a twist about hospital staff, the police, bin men, sewage plant workers etc.....if THEY chose to self isolate despite not having symptoms the whole country would be in a mess wouldn't it?

Life HAS to go on and it DOES go on....it's panic-mongers like you who are whipping up the hysteria.

There are people in my area who are volunteering their time to go pick up shopping etc for those who ARE showing symptoms.....society would be completely fucked if we all gave into fear like you and isolated ourselves.
Consider yourself luck you don't need home-care services.....imagine if all carers refused to go into work, how the fuck would the elderly get the help/meds they needed?
Imagine if care home workers all refused to go to work - who the fuck would look after the residents?

Get a fucking grip and a sensible perspective.

I'm not letting the fear mongering stop me form going about my daily business and i'm glad many others are on the same wavelength!

Am fuming at the stupidity.

Slight over reaction. Hmm
Nothing in your post to suggest she is not of sound mind.
Churches are taking what precautions they can. Many are staying away, but that doesn't mean they need to shut.
This is a frightening time, but it is perfectly possible she has made a conscious decision to carry on living her life the way she wants to.

She's 80, and in her words 'I couldn't give a flying fuck when you're as old as me, you've had good innings!

I suspect she’s not alone in that sentiment. I can think of about half a dozen of our regular attenders who’d probably voice the same opinion if asked.
