Flattening the curve is a delusion...

Anyone who thinks we can flatten the curve should read this. It was linked by credible scientist Simon Baron Cohen. The stats are from America but clearly apply everywhere. To spread out the caseload so the the US health system could treat all the seriously ill would take a decade. That’s how overwhelming the situation is. The only option is widespread testing and a complete lockdown.

Er, his scientific qualifications are “Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Architectures, Computationalism, occasional consumption of caffeinated beverages”
He is not even a university student studying epidemiology or a nurse.
He even has a big disclaimer that his curves are not correct and all of his numbers are back of the envelope calculations?

I'd like to think there'd be a vaccine by then.

Well, that sounds like us in the tech sector. We generally believe that we're the smartest and most knowledgeable on every subject out there, from education to archeology.

I apologise on behalf of my industry - we're a bit full of ourselves much of the time. Also: I recommend going by the informed opinion of actual experts!

Lol that got shut down pretty quick op

flattening the curve absolutely does work and you should stop spreading pure bullshit. China did it very well.

effingterrified · 15/03/2020 15:16

The whole point is they are likely to find some drugs that work to help/cure it within a few months and a vaccine to prevent it within 18 months.

What a crap article.

Flattening the curve is the only sensible option - that's why every single country is doing it and the WHO recommends it.

Oops, I meant every single country except for the UK. Where they want all the sick and elderly to die.

You should stop spreading scare stories.
