Just moved to NI permanently.
Husband due to return to UK mainland today to work for another 2 weeks and finish house packing up etc etc.

Should he go or stay? Is he likely to be able to get back? We have a small toddler so don’t want him being stuck away for ages.

OP posts:
MrsGrindah · 15/03/2020 15:14

I know what I said thanks. Not rude to me but each to their own.

Andylion · 15/03/2020 15:21

If you haven't hidden it, you can't possibly fail to see the deluge of armchair experts posting on the topic every blinking minute in Active, and on any topic they can get away with outside of the topic.

You can't necessarily see what board a thread is on.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 15:35

I don't think he should go but appreciate how difficult this is for you all. If he goes he might not be able to get back to you in NI when he wants to, who knows.

Better he stays with you and your toddler until it is safe. I imagine you are having to pay for your ex house which is a pain.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/03/2020 15:42

You can't necessarily see what board a thread is on.

This is the app on iOS. You can see the board title above every post, and also on desktop it is clearly visible too. Is it different on other OS (I don't know)?

What would you do in this situation?
Andylion · 15/03/2020 16:29

This is what I see when I use Safari or Chrome. This is the page I have bookmarked. Unless you use the app or have bookmarked the A five screen, you don't see it.

What would you do in this situation?
Itsashame · 15/03/2020 16:30

I’ve never seen that page buzz. I keep the page (chat) open on safari all the time and just refresh it when I want to read the threads. Literally no idea what happens elsewhere and I’ve never seen the active page

Itsashame · 15/03/2020 16:30

Exactly the same for me Andylion

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 16:47

I don't believe I am particularly 'thick' but cannot understand the controversy about this thread being in 'talk'. What difference does it make and even if it did make a difference, so what? It's not going to kill anyone, no need to make the op feel rotten about it surely.

I've just had some chicken and vegetable broth and am going to watch last night's Casualty for a bit of light relief.

Do you only ever read AIBU? How do you see threads on other topics? How do you see threads like this where you have commented?

This is the active page: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/active-conversations

(FWIW, I have "threads I'm on" as my autofill on the desktop site (I start typing "mum..." and that page pops up. I look at new posts on any threads I am currently involved on, then go to Active to see what else is happening across MN, minus the topics I have hidden.)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/03/2020 17:24

[I see it has been moved now, but:]
Because it's yet another bloody thread about coronavirus. It's not one or two, its dozens and dozens, and most of them based on nothing more than amateur opinions and hearsay. We have many reputable news and information sources in the world, MN doesn't need armchair experts pushing their unasked-for opinions onto every board.

Furthermore (and more importantly), they are causing real MH distress and anxiety for many people when they are everywhere on MN, so HQ created a topic where all the similarly minded people could hang out and share their theories and 'expertise' without affecting the wider boards.

You're all so rude!!
I agree there is rudeness, but on the part of MNers who know there are boards dedicated to almost every topic you can think of, yet don't bother to wonder if, just maybe, there might be one for whatever amazing coronavirus insight they have to make to the world.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2020 17:57

Not rude to me but each to their own.

Yes, it was rude, no "each to their own" about it.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 18:01

Oh right, Buzz, I get it - I think.

It doesn't bother me but obviously bothers others, however the op is understandably anxious so there's no point in piling on her.

We can ignore threads if we don't like the look of them, surely?

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 18:02

PS: I am still getting this thread on 'talk'.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 18:06

Sorry, I meant, 'Chat', not 'Talk'. It also comes up on 'Last'.
I haven't seen anyone be rude about it as such (a bit exasperated maybe), but posts could have been deleted.

I didn't know there was a 'Coronavirus' board but surely this is of interest to most of us? We don't have to join in.

Lynda07 · 15/03/2020 18:19

I've found the 'dedicated Corona virus board'!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/03/2020 18:36

I didn't know there was a 'Coronavirus' board but surely this is of interest to most of us? We don't have to join in.

It may be of interest, but I want to get my information as factually and calmly and independently as possible, not the breathless and nerve-jangling way so many people on the cv board are spewing it. I commented on a Site Stuff thread that I had spent several days unusually anxious and uneasy, and it wasn't till I managed to get on desktop and hide that topic that I realised it was those posters causing it with their non-stop disaster posts across multiple boards.

Sorry, I meant, 'Chat'
That's interesting - must be an app(?) caching thing as the URL I see is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3848677-What-would-you-do-in-this-situation

MrsGrindah · 15/03/2020 18:42

Well we will just have to disagree Soup Dragon.

SapphireSalute · 15/03/2020 18:45

lol at the corona police....just trying to find a link to the virus in a new thread....no matter how tenuous, so they can leap on and shout 'REPORTED'......how funny people are!!

peachypetite · 15/03/2020 18:51

Some people expressed distress that they couldn’t avoid corona threads and it was affecting their mental health. By keeping all threads to the topic it means those people can hide the topic.

pigdogridesagain · 15/03/2020 20:29

The people who are rude and obsessed with reporting remind me of those tell tale kids at primary school 😂
