Government will tell all over 70’s to self isolate for four months

Robert Peston is reporting that, according to sources, the govt will tell all people to self isolate for four months. I can’t do a link to his itv news report online but it’s worth a read. Apparently the government are also going to take over hotels to be used as hospitals (not sure where the medical staff will come from) and are planning to close pubs, restaurants etc. Schools may also close but some staff retained to look after children of key workers like nhs and police.

I saw that. Believe it too

My DH is a key worker so even if we (me and DCs) self isolate, he could still catch it and bring it home to us. ☹️ My elderly DM would be left alone for 4 months and could see no-one, that’s so sad and scary in equal measure. Will the government employ staff from private hospitals to care for nhs patients? Plus, how many medically trained staff are there in armed forces who could be used I wonder?

My 76 year old mum can't stay in for 4 days without crawling up the walls. She's already on anti-depressants and I'd put money on the fact that she'd rather take her chances of dying of coronavirus than spend 4 months by herself staring at the walls she used to share with my dad. It would be more fucking humane to shoot her.

The prime minister Boris Johnson and health secretary Matt Hancock are counting on neighbours and friends to rally round to make sure no one is neglected. "We are looking for a huge community effort," said a source.

From the ITV article by Preston. I can see at least one small snag...all my mum's neighbours are over 70...

Just seen another thread has been started. There are so many implications for so many people. I’m trying my best to stay calm as my dc is autistic and has extremely high anxiety but the whole situation seems the stuff of nightmares.

What about those of us who have elderly relatives living with them? How would that work?

My dd has been ill (cough, fever, diarrhoea) since yesterday and I’ve stayed away from seeing my mum for 48 hours which has made me feel awful. She already gets so lonely since my dad died and I’d hate to think of her alone for such a long time. But what is the alternative?
