AIBU to refuse to attend college?

The company I work for has banned all non essential business travel. I am in my third and final year of training a have to attend college once a week. Fine, however I have to attend a level 2 functional skills course in maths as I don't have a national recognise level 2 qualification in maths. I do however have a degree and PhD in a science subject. I have asked to do the course self directed but the tutor refused this as he teaches practically. The course material is basic to say the least and I am confident that I can self study.

The main point is the number of trains I have to get on, four trains all ram packed. This is making me anxious, my mother is old, ill and vulnerable and i am a carer.

I have been told I cannot be entered into the final exams of my training if i do not complete this course. It is ridiculous that I even have to do it.

My boss has told me he will back me up if i refuse to attend.

Am I being pathetic?

The course I attend once a week is much closer so this isn't an issue although it may be if the venue imposes restrictions.

YANBU. Not because of Coronavirus, just because it’s ridiculous to ask someone with a PhD in a science subject to actually turn up to something like this.

Totally crazy that you have to do it. Can the company pay for a taxi?

Tw2013 that is a possibility , but would be ££
