Should my husband go to America tomorrow?

We have 2 young children, 7 months and 2 years. My husband is travelling to America tomorrow for work. Is it sensible for him to still travel?
I'm worried he will get stuck out there. Everything is changing so quickly.

This was what was reported

Should my husband go to America tomorrow?
Theworldisfullofgs · 14/03/2020 17:26

According to sky it has been reported that US citizens can return home.

Not quite the same as travel back and forth.

BritWifeinUSA · 14/03/2020 17:29

Then it has been misreported by the journalist. I watched the speech live on TV here. The restrictions do not apply to those of us who are US citizens and green card holders. Chad Wolfe even confirmed that.

Theworldisfullofgs · 14/03/2020 17:30

Slightly bonkers though.

You've got it there too...

BritWifeinUSA · 14/03/2020 17:31

@Theworldisfullofgs I’d rather take it from the person who is actually implementing the ban himself, rather than a journalist from another country. The exact words were that the “restrictions do not apply to US citizens or permanent residents”.

BritWifeinUSA · 14/03/2020 17:34

Indeed we have. And in my state more cases than any other. I work for an airline so I’m the last person to think stopping travel is a good idea. I need planes to continue to fly to be able to pay my mortgage and feed my family. Which is why I’m pleased that at least some people can still travel if they wish.

celtiethree · 14/03/2020 17:38

The restrictions may not apply to US Citizens or permanent residents but I can’t imagine that there will be many flights. Airline carriers will cancel as they can’t afford to fly half empty planes.

It’s also reported that returnees will be funnelled to 13 specific airports for ‘processing’. So not back and forth.

Theworldisfullofgs · 14/03/2020 17:38

Luckier than me.

I'm self employed. All work suspended for at least the next two weeks, probably longer.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 14/03/2020 17:38

My work have banned international travel for the time being. I would say no unless it is absolutely critical that he be there for some incredibly important reason.

MoltonSilver · 14/03/2020 17:51

Airlines have already started cancelling flights.

LizB62A · 14/03/2020 18:03

I work for a large UK company - international business travel was banned a week ago and now we're not allowed to travel to other offices in the UK

Your husband is an idiot if he thinks this is a good time to travel...

Thank you all for your comments. I showed them to him and it helped him see sense! He's staying put Smile

Can’t believe it’s Mumsnet deciding his travel rather than his you know, actual employer Hmm

Sparklfairy · 14/03/2020 20:52

Thank you all for your comments. I showed them to him and it helped him see sense!

See sense? He doesn't have a choice Hmm we're banned!

AdriannaP · 14/03/2020 20:59

Of course not. We won’t even get in now. His work are not responding employers (all international travel is banned at my organisation)

SlayingDragons · 14/03/2020 21:00

@BritWifeinUSA is it permanent residents or legal residents? I have a British friend currently back home here in the U.K. for a few weeks. Due to work commitments they can’t leave before Monday. They are not a green card holder - they are living in the US on a 3yr visa at the minute. Does the ban apply to them?

CallmeAngelina · 15/03/2020 00:04

The ban doesn't start until late Monday evening, so he might just slide in under the wire????
