Greenland. No cases, very pretty. Shall we all go?

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 13/03/2020 14:02

I have a holiday home in a remote part of this country and if it wasn’t for being worried about food supplies (it has one not very well-stocked local shop) I’d be off! I’d rather stay in this country and isolate myself and my family than risk travelling abroad.

Lardlizard · 13/03/2020 14:20

Greenland sounds good

But then we would all take it to Greenland..

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/03/2020 14:27

I have a holiday booked to Aruba later on in the year and have been monitoring, no cases there so far.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/03/2020 14:32

Trouble with holidays is that then the virus is spread more quickly to very vulnerable rural communities.
Remote locations also equal minimal healthcare, and often older people. That is true where I live. Lowest bed numbers in the UK pp. High numbers of elderly people. Heaven help anyone who needs our nearest hospital (an hour away) for any other emergency too, because it is overwhelmed at the best of times.
So I am very worried that all the people who have cancelled Easter holidays in Europe will come to us instead, and kill a significant number of my neighbours and friends in doing so, as we are likely to then get a huge increase in cases.

Grufallosfriends · 13/03/2020 14:35

Why would you potentially take this virus to areas that thankfully haven't got it yet?

Grufallosfriends · 13/03/2020 14:35

You wouldn't be very popular!

buttermilkwaffles · 13/03/2020 14:38

"Why would you potentially take this virus to areas that thankfully haven't got it yet?"

As well as in many cases healthcare systems that would struggle even more than ours if/when there is an outbreak.

The maldivian coronavirus quarantine resort looks quite appealing

Anywhere that doesn't have it won't stay clear of it for long if all the wealthy tourists go there to keep themselves safe.
Lots of countries in Africa don't have it. Their populations don't tend to travel as much as Europe and the west. They also don't have the healthcare infrastructure that we have, and don't need selfish westerners holing up there and bringing it with them.

Grufallosfriends · 13/03/2020 14:52

and don't need selfish westerners holing up there and bringing it with them.

Exactly

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/03/2020 14:59

I'm not going to actually go and hole myself up there, I couldn't afford to!

Holiday isn't until the end of July, I'll reassess nearer the time. I was just keeping an eye out of interest.

crosspelican · 13/03/2020 15:03

Rural areas in some (not all) cases where you are effectively self-isolating - using a car/walking to get around instead of public transport, leisure time out in the wilds/by the sea etc.

Callimanco · 13/03/2020 15:04

Lots of Africa. But then they do have malaria and Ebola to contend with.

Bubu222 · 13/03/2020 15:44

China

Oysterbabe · 13/03/2020 15:46

No cases in Norfolk yet Grin

marcopront · 13/03/2020 15:49

Lots of African countries have no confirmed cases. It doesn't mean there are no cases. There may not be many test kits.

Kenya announced its first case today. A US student.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/03/2020 15:51

My dsis is in st Lucia listening to birdsong on the beach.

There are no cases there.

I think I hate her Grin
