Anybody else due to give birth amongst this chaos? :(

Wasn't sure where to put this but don't want to annoy anyone who's trying to mute coronavirus threads.

I'm almost 35 weeks pregnant and honestly cannot believe what we're waking up to everyday, it feels like the world has gone crazy or is about to end or something! I know this is partly hormones but I just don't know how to feel. I know all the stats, I don't need anyone directing me to the RCOG guidelines etc, I just feel gutted that this poor baby is coming into this, and also incredibly worried about our parents. I genuinely don't feel excited, I just feel dread.

Anybody else? How are you coping?

I'm 31 weeks and terrified.

I'm high risk anyway and have underlying conditions. I also had pneumonia as a result of flu just a couple of months ago and was critically ill in hospital. This is pretty common for me!

If I have to go in to give birth and end up contracting Covid-19 there's a good chance my baby won't have a Mum.

I'm 37 weeks, teaching secondary school. Planning on working up to due date. I'm generally concerned but so hard to predict what will actually happen, so not sure what, if anything to do differently.

We're now being asked to plan additional work in case of closures on top of normal teaching and mock exam marking season. Parents evening this week went ahead as normal.

Anybody else finding it a bit crap that we've had no guidance on this? I only found out we're classed as vulnerable through looking on the WHO website.

IvinghoeBeacon · 15/03/2020 18:28

I think we have no information because there are too many unknowns still, things are changing quickly, and it will vary so much by area/hospital/trust etc. I know some people have had texts from their midwives advising of things happening in their own area, but I have a MW appt on Wednesday where hopefully there might be a bit more info.

SnoozyLou · 15/03/2020 18:55

I asked my midwife about it, and honestly, she seemed more worried about it than I am as she has a pretty serious preexisting health condition. I don't think they're being communicated with much either by the sounds of it. Suppose it's just unprecedented.

@happymrsc Sorry only saw the new messages today! DD is fine today thanks, just a bit of a cough remaining. DH and I are fine, given CV is meant to be so contagious I'm guessing she doesn't have it?! Another 3 days of self-isolation though argh. Sorry you are feeling so anxious Sad I've had (and thankfully recovered from) an anxiety disorder so can relate. Do feel free to PM me if you like, happy to listen x

Catscrat · 15/03/2020 19:50

It's a very anxious time, there are so many unknowns. Just wondered if any of you are/are considering social distancing? I'm 35+3 so not long to go, am already on mat leave (thank God - I'm a teacher) and DH is permanently WFH now, so would be fairly easy for us to to lay low (apart from DD being at pre-school and picking up germs there) My worry is in the coming months things will get more restrictive (ie lockdown) and we'll be housebound for months - so maybe to make the most of being able to go out and about while we can?!

IvinghoeBeacon · 15/03/2020 19:59

I am WFH until maternity leave (instructed to by my manager based on my workplace’s risks assessment) but my husband has to go out to work until they close schools (teacher) and my son has to go to nursery as long as we are both working. I consider us the fortunate ones in this respect - childcare closures would be manageable for our household. Because of imminent baby arrival we haven’t had any travel or events planned for this time anyway, so haven’t needed to make any decisions about cancelling. I obviously have medical appts scheduled and will attend unless they are changed or cancelled. So it’s social distancing by default really, as far as is possible given current work commitments

SnoozyLou · 15/03/2020 20:02

I've taken my son out of nursery. I spoke to them on Thursday and they said it was fine to take him in with a temperature 😳 Granted, that was before Boris's speech, but there's been no contact with parents and I'm not sure exactly reassured. Still got until the end of June to go.

I've ordered cardboard, glue and a tonne of paint and glitter to try and keep our 2 year old entertained. It that's panic buying, so be it 😬

NearlyGranny · 15/03/2020 20:07

DiL still waiting at 39+4, and my role is bumped because the unit announced last night that women can have only one birth partner. We're isolating and keeping our spirits up!

Catscrat · 15/03/2020 20:12

@SnoozyLou we’re 3 days into isolation and running out of crafts lol. I did an emergency amazon order of the magic painting books from Usborne- DD (3) loves them and minimal mess! Hope your nursery steps up. Ours has been super clear about enforcing the guidelines.

Catscrat · 15/03/2020 20:13

Sorry to hear that @NearlyGranny Sad I hope all goes well for your DIL

happymrsc · 15/03/2020 20:37

@catscrat glad to hear she's not too unwell with it. Fingers crossed for you and DH. And thank you x

How is everyone else holding up? We had some social stuff the back end of the working week that we did, but that's it really now. Baby shower cancelled and prepared just to stay in and hunker down tbh, except for midwife appointments and scans.Got a food shop coming tomorrow and it's so hard not to overbuy as things keep going out of stock and loads of friends have had over half their stuff not turn up... watch the whole lot turn up now Blush

@NearlyGranny sorry to hear that. Hope all goes well for your DIL... I'm jealous she'll be done and dusted before everything really kicks off!!

@Catscrat If amazon stop coming, I'm doomed!
