Audio of two Italian doctors discussing the current crisis

Although the press briefing today claimed the UK is a month behind Italy, the numbers seem to suggest we are more like two weeks behind.
Anyway, this is possibly what the near future holds for the UK, with the proviso that we have fewer ICU beds per capita, are not rated as highly in global healthcare rankings as Italy, and haven't taken the dramatic lockdown actions they have.

There are English subtitles to the audio.

Shit.

CornflakeBreath · 13/03/2020 00:22

That is really frightening :(

HollowTalk · 13/03/2020 00:30

I'm too scared to watch that!

Barracker · 13/03/2020 00:40

It's just audio, no video. A recorded conversation, not covertly recorded I should add - it appears with consent to share, as one of the doctors says she's recording an update on the situation for her cousin.

There's nothing disturbing to see, which is fortunate, as listening to their voices describing prioritising who gets a ventilator and who must die is horrifying enough.

Rationing treatment through desperation, doctors forced to rank patients for treatment.

It's hard to accept this is what we too will face. But it may well be.

I'm copying this and moving it to a different thread. I hope you don't mind.

This is too vital to miss. It has made me sit up and take this situation seriously for the first time.

Thank you for posting this.

Kmx123 · 13/03/2020 07:48

Apparently everyone that gets it gets some degree of pneumonia this is not the flu there are not enough beds and ventilators for everyone protect your family

Barracker · 13/03/2020 07:55

That's fine, it needs to be circulated.
Which thread did you share it too, Kmx123?

Sorry, I meant NellyGrace

Those poor doctors, not that doctors had an easy job before this but that has to be mentally scarring.

NellyGrace · 13/03/2020 10:06

I just shared it with Worried about Coronavirus No. 20 (possibly, don't know what number they were up to last night ...).

It does need sharing more. There are just so so many threads now, it's difficult to know where to put it.

I'd also like to send it to my family members who are not taking this seriously enough yet - but also don't want to completely terrify them.

HollowTalk · 13/03/2020 11:05

Apparently everyone that gets it gets some degree of pneumonia

This is completely untrue and is scaremongering.

Kmx123 · 13/03/2020 11:52

Its actually factual and is dependant on if your immune system can fight it off

Jerseygaly · 13/03/2020 11:54

40% have mild pneumonia.
20% hospital of which 5% itu
40% are ok

It's in the bmj

Jerseygaly · 13/03/2020 11:57

Actually think it was cdc..But bmj said 80% mild 15% servere 5% critical
