Do you have an overseas holiday booked for Easter
juicy0 · 12/03/2020 17:36
Do you have a holiday booked for the Easter break and, if so, where to and are you still planning to go!
ihatethecold · 12/03/2020 17:39
Yes. Porto with my friend who is a GP.
We are meeting this weekend to decide what to do but I think I know what we should be doing and that’s cancelling ðŸ˜
juicy0 · 12/03/2020 17:41
@Butterflystar76 we are due to be going to Marrakech in May :(
If there is no travel ban I guess we won't get our money back from the hotel which we booked independently or for the flights.
Asvan · 12/03/2020 18:20
We are due to be going to Agadir in April but I'm really not sure what to do. I booked with Ryanair and managed to speak to them today. They said as it stands all flights to Morocco are still operating but if they decide to cancel our flight or if the FCO advises against travel to Morocco then we will get a refund. I am secretly hoping that this will happen so that we can get our money back. The last thing I want is to be worrying on holiday or worse still end up on a resort somewhere and if someone tests positive we have to be quarantined.
brendansbuddy · 12/03/2020 18:23
Austria and Germany. No idea if we will or should go. Wait and see?
Same re. Insurance. No you get nothing as FCO still say it's fine to fly to Europe bar Italy I think. That fact makes me wonder if it is in fact fine to go... Tricky. I know several people who are going to Europe though, undeterred.
Forumqueen · 12/03/2020 18:24
I’m supposed to be going Malaga in April. Unless there is a travel ban I will be going.
OohMrDarcy · 12/03/2020 18:30
I'm going to spain second week of the easter holidays. All being well I will still go.
Pangur2 · 12/03/2020 18:33
Iceland in April. Mostly driving around on our own. Will probably still go, but have insurance in case it all gets cancelled.
QueenofmyPrinces · 12/03/2020 18:37
We are supposed to be going to Turkey over the Easter holidays.
DH is adamant we are going whereas I don’t want to go at all.
Tense times!!!!
Forumqueen · 12/03/2020 18:45
@Pangur2 does you insurance cover you if you just simply don’t want to go but there are no restrictions or travel plans on place?...the answer is no right? So you can only claim through insurance if there is a travel ban. ?
Ronnie27 · 12/03/2020 18:46
Spain in May. Assume still going ahead unless we are told not to go but based on today’s updates I’d imagine we’ll be cheerily waved off regardless.
Janleverton · 12/03/2020 19:00
South Africa. Still going unless told not to (by uk or SA government) or flights cancelled. Or unless ill.
Janleverton · 12/03/2020 19:01
We are insured but the insurance doesn’t kick in unless all but essential travel banned.
ThanksForAllTheFish · 12/03/2020 19:06
DH was supposed to go to Germany this weekend. He has cancelled his trip.
Easter we are going up to the north of Scotland / Highlands for a week. We are still happy to go ahead with that trip as we will be driving there in our own car and the cottage is in the middle of nowhere so if anything we will have less exposure to people that if we stayed home (large city).
I wouldn’t be happy to travel anywhere by aeroplane at the moment. All the recirculated air makes it risky, as is the possibility of being stranded / quarantined etc in another country.
JamesBlonde1 · 12/03/2020 19:15
I was going to Italy so cancelled and got my money back. Really sad about Italy.
Branleuse · 12/03/2020 19:21
im not going to cancel unless we have to. Will be using private transport and staying in own property rather than a hotel, so will avoid crowded places. Not huge airports either, so fingers crossed will be ok, but will have to see
10storeylovesong · 12/03/2020 19:46
We're supposed to be going to Sweden in April. Will still be travelling unless told not to. Our insurance only covers cancellation, not disinclination to travel.
isitwinetimeyet16 · 12/03/2020 19:49
We were going to America. Wedding in NY and travelling round Florida first. Wedding has been cancelled and I think it's beyond unlikely Trump's travel ban will not extend to the UK soon so now we're looking at holidays in the UK for the second week at least.
Torvi · 12/03/2020 20:02
Canaries at the end of the month. Flights only as we have a holiday home. I'm hoping the flights are cancelled so we don't have to make the decision. As much as we've been looking forward to it I don't want to go.
ihatethecold · 12/03/2020 20:03
the thing is, Im due to be in porto in early April but ive seen online that even if I can still fly and stay, lots of the museums and public buildings have been closed. I would imagine that bars and restaurants will end up also being closed so what's the point of going?
FrankieManca · 12/03/2020 20:04
Having contained the infections of people who came home from working in China we are now facing an epidemic caused by people who were able to go skiing at half term.
The people on zero hours contracts, the lowest rung employees who only get statutory sick pay, those who have to use buses because they can’t afford cars... the poorer will be the worst hit by this illness.
Do.The.Right.Thing.
BikeRunSki · 12/03/2020 20:05
Also Iceland in April. Will go unless FCO guidance against it.
ComeOnGordon · 12/03/2020 20:07
Ex has booked to take the kids to Majorca after Easter. He’s actually in the canaries now so can imagine he’ll not take advice and just go. Hope he realises they’ll be self isolating with him if needs must!
FaithInfinity · 12/03/2020 20:09
We have a week off at Easter and were going to do a last minute booking. DH asked me if we should go ahead (pushing to go) but I said there’s no point?! If we had something booked I’d consider going but I’m not booking with all this going on. We’ll go for October instead.
