Cleaning materials to take on holiday
Distantview · 10/03/2020 17:34
Dh and I are due to go skiing to France on Saturday.
The holiday is still on although I admit to being a tad nervous about catching Coronavirus. We'd get no money back if we cancel.
My question is, aside from sanitiser and Dettol wipes, what sort of soap would be good to take to give the hotel room a really good clean with hot water and e cloths when we get there?
E.g would washing up liquid do the job? We are taking our own kettle and will ask for them not to clean the room on our behalf.

Anyone? After Macron's broadcast this evening, We're now wondering whether to go at all. We'd have to forfeit the money we've paid though.
Sertchgi123 · 12/03/2020 22:59
Don’t go, is my advice. So what if you lose your money, your health is more important.
bengalcat · 12/03/2020 23:01
I’m skiing in France end of the month hopefully - we have an apartment but will be taking bog standard soap/ shower gel and use standard cleaning agents for surfaces when there . Enjoy your holiday .
LEELULUMPKIN · 12/03/2020 23:05
If Macron closes the borders surely your insurance would cover you?
Distantview · 12/03/2020 23:07
We're not self catering sadly, it's a jumbo chalet (Mark Warner). So, close contact with other holidaymakers, communal eating etc .. really not ideal.
Distantview · 12/03/2020 23:08
Yes, if borders close we're covered, but they haven't been yet.
Limpshade · 13/03/2020 03:30
I would think you would be more at risk from contact with others during the travel and while on the holiday itself than the germs in a chalet

I am due to fly tomorrow morning to ski in France. Trip still going ahead according to Crystal Ski. Am based in ireland and DFA (FCO equivalent) has not upgraded France travel status.

I wouldn’t go if I were you. The risk isn’t that you will catch it, the risk is that you will spread it to more vulnerable people.
I don’t really understand why so many people are still failing to grasp this.
Barbararara · 13/03/2020 07:27
The money is already gone whether or not you go.
You don’t have to throw your health away after it
(or risk the health of vulnerable people)
TT99 · 13/03/2020 12:28
We would have stayed fully at home for at least 2 weeks after coming home if we had gone to minimise any risk to others. But anyhow, no longer an issue as we are not going. So trip is still going ahead according to Crystal Ski, just without us. @Distantview the FFS has cancelled all ski racing and club activiotes in France. I assume resorts will be in some kind of shutdown v soon. Take care everyone
Distantview · 15/03/2020 10:54
Update: We decided not to go, but France closed all ski resorts yesterday and, finally, Mark Warner cancelled the holiday.
So, we will get a refund.
Of course, the biggest concern is everyone whose health and living is affected by this.
