Posted a week or so ago about my boyfriend going to europe this weekend to watch some European sport.
Only booked last Friday and left yesterday (friday) will be back monday night. He has flown to north Spain, travelled by public transport to mid Spain, flies then to Portugal. After Portugal flies to Italy, public transport there and returns home flying from Rome airport.
Portugal dont have many cases of cv tight right now but italy and Spain do! Tried to persuade him not to go but doesnt care, thinks its no big deal etc.
Just found out 60 cases of cv have been caught from a large gathering at a funeral in Spain, Which is 10 mins from Where boyfriend is right now!

Really worried about him and then him coming back and spreading. Part of me wants to stay away for 10/14 days (dont live together) but other half of me wants to see him as i miss him and he thinks im overreacting anyway. Might miss celebrating my birthday with him too if i dont see him :(
What should i do?

Have a look at the advice.
I think the whole of Italy is under self isolate.
With that travel history I certainly think he needs to.

However with community transmission here you and us all are now at risk too (I still wouldn't see him though) and I hope he doesn't go about or to work.
10% of Italy cases are in itu.

Rockylove · 07/03/2020 17:55

He isn't bothered so will be going to work as normal and still socialising.
I think its a selfish view to take. But he agrees that youve got as much chance as catching it over here now anyway (may even be from someone who hasnt been over seas)

I wouldn't see him and think his attitude sounds incredibly selfish.

MoltonSilver · 07/03/2020 18:03

I wrote a post and deleted it because it was too harsh to post. Suffice to say he's an idiot and he's selfish. Portugal don't have many cases but he does mind bringing it there from Spain.

MoltonSilver · 07/03/2020 18:03

Doesn't mind

MoltonSilver · 07/03/2020 18:06

He could actually kill someone. He could head off to italy blissfully unaware of what he's left behind in Portugal.

Helenj1977 · 07/03/2020 18:09

I can't imagine him being allowed to country hop like that?? What a selfish idiot. I'd stay away longer then 2 weeks!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 07/03/2020 18:14

You should phone the company he works for so they can stop him from going in. Selfish prick.

SparklingLime · 07/03/2020 18:15

I’d be distancing myself from him for more than 14 days. What a selfish, dismissive attitude to you especially, but also to everyone else.

So many new cases worldwide are coming from people who have traveled from Italy (scroll down to updates):

PotholeParadise · 07/03/2020 18:18

I wouldn't see him for at least 12 days.

SistemaAddict · 07/03/2020 18:26

I'd dump him for being a selfish, thoughtless dick. Italy is a massive hotspot for the virus.

MissSmith80 · 07/03/2020 18:29

I think if he used the 111 online advice platform - he's find that he would be advised to self isolate so no, I wouldn't see him and I'd dump him for being selfish - he will be fine but he could pass on to vulnerable people

Rockylove · 07/03/2020 18:29

You are all confirming what i think and what ive told him already - that i think hes stupid for booking and going in the first place. I cant do anything about where he goes or if he isolates himself or not but i can try to kerp myself and my family healthy.
I know hundreds or people are still flying off on their holidays every day and you cant stop the 'norm" but i just think country hopping and a lot of public transport rings alarm bells for me. Id rather be safe than sorry but thats my personality anyway.

I would wait. He’s away for long enough for all kinds of changes.

mrbob · 07/03/2020 18:52

I imagine the sport may be cancelled anyway but yes he is being an idiot. The advice would be for him to isolate when he gets home. His work place may be interested to know...

SparklingLime · 07/03/2020 22:14

A bit of a reality check, OP: in the last 24 hours there have been 1247 new cases in Italy as opposed to 42 in the UK.

MoltonSilver · 10/03/2020 07:25

Did he make it home before Italy went on lockdown?

Rockylove · 10/03/2020 07:51

Yes he did, hes had to waste a lot of money on rearranging transport, flights, trains etc but hes back. Im not seeing him until late next week though!

OP posts:
Buggedandconfused · 10/03/2020 07:54

Hope he learned his lesson. Idiot.

MoltonSilver · 10/03/2020 08:29

I'm glad he made it back, hopefully virus free.

SparklingLime · 10/03/2020 10:35

So he’s self-isolating? Or is he going to double-down on his dickdom?
