Has anybody's schools cancelled events etc?

I'm just curious about if any changes have been made as of yet? My school has a big evening event planned for two weeks time. It'll be a lot of people crammed into the school hall for a couple of hours. We'll be there as all my DC's are taking part.
I'm fairly measured about Coronavirus, am following the official advice whilst carrying on as normal, but am also a bit nervous about whether the extra-curricula stuff should be stopped as although it's wonderful and lovely it's certainly not essential.

What are other schools doing?

NB - I'm in London so there are cases in the city but I'm not aware of any locally.

Rural - currently everything going on as planned including future school trips to Italy. Told if there's a case in a school pupil government advice is they stay open so they will be.

Only change is not shaking hands, that's it. Hope they at least say if a pupil is diagnosed so people have a choice whether to send kids. Surprised Italy trip going ahead but guess government don't want to pay out / insurers to pay out.

Everything normal here, even parents evening planned which is alot of parents and kids all in one hall

A trip abroad, I think it was Greece, has been cancelled. A few UK day trips have been cancelled too, eg Big Bang Fair.

I wouldn't mind parents evening being cancelled !

Koala I'm so confused. I thought everyone had to self isolate returning from the Italy now? So your dc school will keep all staff and pupils at home?

KoalasandRabbit · 07/03/2020 13:11

Ours did give parents an option for parents evening of receiving an update by e-mail if parents self-isolating. Few teachers didn't turn up but none officially for the virus, not told why.

Nothing cancelled so far in my kids school one of the high schools had pupils back from italy straight back to school but I dont believe they were in the affected areas there has been a lot if panic buying but schools are of the keep calm and carry on variety

KoalasandRabbit · 07/03/2020 13:14

I think you only self-isolate after Italy with symptoms - the NHS listed ones unless it's a lockdown area but they are small and its to Sorrento. DD is supposed to be going, I pointed out maybe more sensible to cancel now as we can just lose deposits. School replied everyone needs to pay in full and it's going ahead. I've paid in full already, did at the start but don't think they've thought through impact. They say they will follow government advice.

slipperywhensparticus · 07/03/2020 16:44

All the other high schools who went to italy self isolated one school had closed for a deep clean

KoalasandRabbit · 07/03/2020 16:46

The schools i know with Italy half term ski trips just carried on, didn't isolate pupils or staff unless symptoms which is government advice.

Ireland only self isolate after returning from affected areas like, Northern Italy, if symptoms occur.
I personally think that's a bit too late but will see happens , can only go by guidelines.
Schools, 4 have been closed nationwide, in an attempt to curtail the virus , as they had pupils or staff test positive .
So far, all other schools are carrying on as normal. No hand shakes at games etc, but that's it .

A local school has cancelled a theatre production but as far as I am aware parents evenings etc are going ahead.
