Feeling ropey and now got a right snotty nose and a horrible cough. One of those that really hurts at the top ofthe lungs when you cough, driving me barmy.

Its a standard cough/cold, I am sure of it. But my mother has gone into overdrive saying I should be tested anyway.

AIBU to not ring and just get over it as I normally would?

YABU - Ring 111
YANBU - Take two paracetamol and come back in a week if its no better Wink

You can do a 111 questionnaire online to see what you should do depending on circumstances

AriadnesFilament · 06/03/2020 20:00
  1. how can you possibly be sure of it?

  2. how can anyone here?

YABU to ask purely because it’s the bloody internet and no one here can answer this sort of question, whether it’s COVID19 or not.

moita · 06/03/2020 20:00

Have you just come back from somewhere that's in exclusion? I thought a high temperature was the main symptom?

nikkylou · 06/03/2020 20:01

It's probably a cold.
Doesn't the Covid-19 start with a fever and shortness of breath as well as cough?
It does not hurt to check you don't fall in to any of the at risk groups, with you or others having been away etc.

PineappleDanish · 06/03/2020 20:02

A snotty nose is NOT a symptom.

111999A · 06/03/2020 20:05

You won’t get tested unless you have visited one of the countries on the list in the last 14 days or been in close contact with a confirmed case and have symptoms which are a temp, cough and shortness of breath, definitely not cold symptoms, a snotty nose does not appear anywhere on the list.

Notlong20 · 06/03/2020 20:14

Don’t be silly, they don’t just swab everyone!

Take the quiz!

3littlemonkeys82 · 06/03/2020 20:49

111 are under immense pressure with people calling that do not need to call. Please go to the 111 website and take the coronavirus quiz and follow the given advice.

pudcat · 06/03/2020 20:52

It is only a version of flu and unless you have other health problems do what you would do for ordinary flu. 111 must be inundated with unneccesary calls.

QueenOfPain · 06/03/2020 20:54

Have you travelled to an affected country? Or had contact with a confirmed case? If no then YABU.

Amanduh · 06/03/2020 20:56

They’re not symptoms of coronavirus.

TimeMarchesOnNeverEnding · 06/03/2020 20:59

As others said your symptoms are that if a cold, NOT covid-19. Don't waste resources that are already over stretched.

LilyMumsnet · 06/03/2020 21:00

We're just moving this over to the right topic now. Flowers

Throckmorton · 06/03/2020 21:11

It is only a version of flu It really isn't. The death rate is far higher and no one has any immunity to it.

Take the quiz and call 111 if you are unsure because they would 100% prefer to be safe than sorry. If you don't have it then it's cost them a few minutes - if you do have it then finding that out and getting isolated helps towards preventing an epidemic.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/03/2020 21:28

THank you. Didnt think I was being U by not calling.

My view is that there are enough people who get a tickle and then call, I am not going to be one of them! There is a local temp recruitment drive for call handlers to deal with this issue specifically, so there is obviously not enough people to take the calls.

I am fine, if grumpy and feeling sore in the throat. Feel no guilt in telling ma to get a grip!

And no, have not travelled.

Do the online test first, then tell your ma to get a grip :)

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/03/2020 21:38

Just did. Sent me to the standard site for help with coughs:)

OP posts:
Throckmorton · 06/03/2020 21:41

Cool! You can now officially tell your ma to get a grip, and also to get you a cuppa/lemsip/etc and pander to you a bit cos you do feel poorly even though it's not covid :)

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/03/2020 21:51

Lemsip? Pandering?! You've never met my ma have you?! :o:o

OP posts:
Throckmorton · 06/03/2020 22:04

Ha! That's rough, she surely owes you a bit of a pander after worrying you about coronavirus!

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/03/2020 22:48

Nah, but I suspect she will think I should be pandering because I worried her over it :o

She's really not that bad but is a panicker. All sorted today though as she has a genuine case of noro, a full on sitting on the bog with her head a bucket job, poor cow. So all thoughts of Corona have fled but ironically, they need emergency bog roll and cant fucking get any thanks to Corona hoarders Hmm Luckily I did my big shop the other day so my 9 pack (bought as normal before anyone jumps on me) has gone round there.
