It’s officially reached where my parents live, very very close to home. They’ve told me to stock up for when it hits here. They’ve just been out shopping and the shelves are apparently bare.
AIBU to stock pile a small supply incase the shelves get cleared here? It’s already started the Pasta and toilet roll are completely out of stock along with medications like calpol, paracetamol and that’s with just getting it delivered. Hmm

I'm not worried about running out of toilet roll. I know how to wash my hands and my lawn hasn't been mowed for a while Grin.

Well, I don't use them @BobTheDuvet , but I imagine it's just like reusable nappies.
There are people who just use them for pee. And people who use them for both.

Better than a sponge on a stick!

Peanut55 · 06/03/2020 21:19

Tried to do my online weekly shop.

No pasta. No paracetamol (which I really need!! As due on next week and always keep a box in the cupboard ) No hand sanitiser.

Absolutely bonkers. Luckily I can afford to spend £1.70+ on pasta shells or paracetamol as having to buy extortionate branded products. There are alot of people in the country that couldn't afford to.

It seems a bit selfish to me.

Buying 5000 toilet rolls. Yes. That's selfish. Two weeks is the isolation period, not 2 years.

Well went this morning spent £250 on meat and staples incase we are made to isolate or me and DH become unwell with it and can’t leave the house for a few weeks. 😂 the check out lady told us we were being sensible so I feel better now!

In the South West, no issues with food/toilet roll so far, but couldn’t find any paracetamol in Aldi today.

DH’s boss is currently in self-isolation as he was in a meeting with someone who tested positive last week. We’ve got enough food etc but could have done with a pack of paracetamol - I’ve been down with a kidney infection for two weeks so running short.

viccat · 07/03/2020 12:41

There was someone involved in the distribution to shops on TV the other night saying supply chains were likely to be affected if the virus epidemic goes on for a while (factory closures, imports disrupted etc.) and while shops wouldn't completely run out at any point, there might be less choice available - tea was mentioned as one of the products where you'll always be able to buy it but maybe not your favourite brand/type etc.

On that basis I have bought a few extras in my weekly shop this week.

dudsville · 07/03/2020 12:48

How much loo roll do people go through. Genuine question. There are two of us and I think we go through a pack of 9 on a weekly basis - we are home a lot. We always have a spare pack of loo roll, but if we had runny noses and ran out of tissues then the supply would take a hit... hm... might need to get some more!

dudsville · 07/03/2020 12:50

Also, what would you do if someone ran out and asked for some of your supply? Loo roll isn't life or death, but it certainly does make life a little more pleasant. Reading threads like these makes me think I might hide my loo roll supply from house guests. Smile

IllustriousToad · 07/03/2020 13:02

@dudsville there are 2 of us and I'd say maybe 4, maximum!

SabineSchmetterling · 07/03/2020 13:06

Feeling very smug about my fancy bidet toilet seat with built in blow dryer now. Grin

SistemaAddict · 07/03/2020 13:50

Feeling pretty pleased with myself that I joined the Brexit preppers over a year go and am not affected by the shortages. Mum followed my lead on this too and has plenty. I do feel sorry for those who aren't able to get what they need due to panic buying. This is why we prep: to avoid exactly this situation.

Ive been to two supermarkets this morning and not an empty shelf to be seen.

Either nobody is panic buying here or everyone has prepped sensibly!

woodhill · 07/03/2020 13:58

Went to Costco and it was heaving. I managed to grab some loo roll.

It was interesting in the queue when people were told they could only buy one multi pack of kitchen roll etc and some started arguing with cashier

SistemaAddict · 07/03/2020 14:00

I was chatting to someone in the queue who was also a brexit prepper. I'd never met a real life one before and suspect she may be a mumsnetter Grin
