To keep breastfeeding because of coronavirus

I’m not one for health anxiety usually and I’m still hopeful that the coronavirus panic will all blow over so I’m not sure where this is coming from. DS is 18 months, I’d hoped to give up breastfeeding about now. I’m done with it. He’s only fed once per day (and only really 4-5 times per week) for a few months so I know he’s not desperately attached to it. I’m also 5-6 weeks pregnant and am bracing myself for horrendously sore nipples like I had last time, and would like to have a few months where I’m not breastfeeding before the next one comes along. However, I’m now worrying that I’ll massively regret stopping breastfeeding if DS becomes unwell with coronavirus! Obviously I’m doing everything that is reasonably practicable to stop that, but equally I’m not going to shut him, or us in the house for the next few months ‘just in case’. Do I finally fully wean him now, or do I wait it out another couple of months? Is it unreasonable to keep feeding him just in case he gets ill?

If you’re happy to continue then do. It certainly won’t do any harm! Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t/don’t want to though. You can’t do it forever.

There is now a dedicated topic for C.V.

I'm bf my toddler and new baby. Funnily enough I didnt have to wait for my milk to come in and it was easier. If yous are happy to continue do it.

Robuns · 04/03/2020 15:29

If you are happy to continue then do so, but unless you catch it anyway then there's no chance of passing on immunity. If you wanted a break just make sure he has his recommended vitamins, up to you.

Hi OP, we've moved this into Coronavirus.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/03/2020 15:50

Toddlers & children are at v v low risk of coronavirus

Do whatever suits you best - imo, you need to prioritise yourself atm

JassyRadlett · 04/03/2020 15:53

Don’t the immunity benefits of BFing come from you passing your immunity on? As this is a new virus would there be any specific coronavirus benefits?

Pipandmum · 04/03/2020 15:53

I don't see what one has to do with the other.
