My job. What to do

I’m starting to think what should I do when it comes to my job, should the virus spread further.
I clean holiday homes. I have no other income and I’m self employed. If I don’t work, we have nothing.
People from all over the world come and stay in these holiday homes. I’ve been wearing rubber gloves and washing my hands before eating or touching my phone etc but is this enough? Maybe that’s all I can do.
Would it be reasonable for me to ask the guests to not show up if they’ve displayed any symptoms of illness over the last month? Not sure what to do.
My family have asthma, COPD, cancer.. I don’t want to spread it around.

Do you own the holiday homes? If so yes you have every right to say please stick to government advice re self isolation (travel/contact history and symptoms) it would be unreasonable to ban everybody with cold. If you are not the owner you aren't in a position to make that request.

I work closely with the owners and I’m sure my request for them to make sure of this as a precaution would be fine.

Hmm I think your owner would be treading on thin ice allowing you to do this. These people would be out a lot of money all because you are nervous about cleaning the home? Are you allowed to cancel the booking of someone just because they are unwell - is it in the small print? She could always put a notice on her website asking people travelling from 'high risk areas' not to travel if they have any symptoms of covid 19, but I don't see how you can do anything more.

I should think that as a cleaner, you would be wearing PPE anyway? Don't forget this is just one of many illnesses that can survive for a while on surfaces.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to impose your own stipulations about which can use these holiday homes. Fine for the government ones to be respected though.

Ok so maybe I should focus instead on what precautions to take apart from rubber gloves?

You are literally one of the millions at risk
OP whatever you do there is a risk

International office
Air hostess
Shop worker
Airport workers
Cleaners
Receptionist
Consultants
Medical staff
Teachers

So I would say wear as mask and gloves and carry on . If they are that risky they probably won’t come

Your role is no riskier than most Smile

Thank you, that’s true. I’m just going to do the best I can and hope for the best!
