Do you believe the numbers from China accurate?

They show a good slowdown of infection and declining death rate. I want to believe their numbers, but there seems to be a lot of people who think they aren't painting a full picture.

What do you think?

I think they are probably tolerably accurate given the involvement of the WHO and the relative transparency of China this time round

I would be more concerned about the accuracy of the figures from Iran (though to be fair to Iran, the WHO is now on the ground in Iran)

Socalm · 04/03/2020 00:16

No, I don't believe tham at all.

TeddyIsaHe · 04/03/2020 00:18

Of course they’re bollocks! It’s China ffs 😂 The infection rate is probably in the hundreds of thousands, but they’re being praised for their ‘infection control’ now so..

BloomedAgain · 04/03/2020 00:19

No and I don't think they even know accurate numbers

YappityYapYap · 04/03/2020 00:20

They probably aren't but they may not actually know the full infection rate or death rate because the outbreak happened so fast and a lot of people in China are self isolating and managing symptoms on their own. I can't imagine that every elderly person that has died over the past few months has had a postmortem so they won't actually know what a lot of them died from and just decided natural causes, flu or heart problems. China has such a big population that people die every few minutes so it's hard to tell if it was Corona virus or not.

I don't think China has any reason to hide what's been going on. Sure the rest of the world doesn't agree with a lot of what China does, especially their animal welfare standards but we know where it came from now and we know it's spread so what do they have to hide really?

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/03/2020 00:28

I suppose I hope even if the overall figures have been massaged - maybe the % of critical and fatalities could be accurate and therefore useful?

Although if the big picture numbers aren't real, that means transmission rate numbers are skew whiff.

Yes I believe they are as accurate as the Chinese can make them and that they are being as transparent and cooperative as any other country.,given that the situation makes having completely accurate numbers pretty much impossible

Ryantrain · 04/03/2020 00:38

Naaaah its China, mate course theyre hiding stuff 😂

ArriettyJones · 04/03/2020 00:42

No, not at all.

There is a limit to what WHO can observe, what they will be given access to.

I do not think it matters in terms of the U.K./European disease course though, as the social contexts and responses are so different.

I don't think there is a need to panic at all.

Soap, hand gel, staying in a bit more with Netflix, working from home where possible, avoiding unnecessary crowds and public transport. The more the population takes common sense precautions, the better this will go.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/03/2020 00:47

Not even remotely accurate.
