AIBU to think that it would be good if official advice included...

when to wash your hands! Experts are advising that 'Destination Handwashing' (i.e. when you arrive home from work/shopping/the commute/school run etc.) is actually one of the most important times and it's one of those things that most people are not in the habit of doing!

There seems to be a lot of info about washing your hands for 20 seconds (i.e. for the length of time it takes to sing 'Happy Birthday' through twice) but very little about when to wash your hands.

Obviously everyone should still be washing after using the toilet and before preparing food but it's after train journeys; visiting shops/supermarkets and other busy places that it's most critical.

I think it's too obvious really.

Those who couldn't work that out for themselves, are probably not the ones doing extra hand washing due to the virus.

I don't think it's too obvious to be spelled out. When I get home from work I am trying to get 5 things done at once so I could easily touch dozens of things/surfaces before washing my hands to prepare dinner. The advice I saw today about making it the first thing you do was actually really helpful because it made me take notice, think about the fact that I've never questioned why I don't already do it, and put it at the forefront of my mind so I will make sure I do it from now on.

Yeah I think a lot of people forget Porridge. I have severe ocd so keep reminding my family to do it!

I think official advice/posters about handwashing now include 'when you get home/to work'.

I’ve seen it advised but I’m not sure if it’s been on “official” advisory notices or some of those things that have been going round on FB. I’ve definitely seen it though.

I tend to wash my hands when arrive home. Especially if I have been on public transport.

I also use hand gel when I get off public transport.
