I agree that we will see financial implications for a while, prices have already risen. Inflation is up. Fuel is extremely expensive here in the UK

I know I'm lucky to be able to say this but I can easily absorb a bit extra cost of living, I'm far more concerned about the cost of this foolish war to the average Iranian. Trump is such a fucking fool.

Yes, neither side seem to want to stick to ceasefire and sort out

This is not just what is happening to the average Iranian but also to other vulnerable populations. There are concerns of increasing hunger in other countries too and potentially famine due to shortage of fertiliser.

I wonder if this will cross Trump’s mind when he says he’s got time on his side.

Indeed, many poorer people in a number of countries will suffer.

Fertilizer shortages and increased diesel prices, combined with a reduction in foreign aid. I fear famine becoming much more likely.

I'm asking about the second article you posted about - I don't understand why you keep posting articles with no comment on them?

The first post is about the financial implications due to the war on Iran.

The second article is what the government of the UK aim to do to mitigate the rising costs associated with the war. “We’re acting now to prepare for, and mitigate where possible, the impact on our economy and domestic security as a result of the conflict."

I tend to like not just to discuss war both the wider implications on the UK in particular, because this is a UK site. However, not many people want to discuss this. I probably should have posted elsewhere since this thread area tends to be mainly interested in the conflict that was in Gaza, ceasefire ongoing and has been for some time, rather than on the conflict between Iran and The US/Israel. Both might affect the UK, Gaza in the spreading of hate speech in the UK against Jewish people who have nothing to do with the conflict and for Iran, the wider implications of rising everyday costs. I understand if you are not interested though, many aren't.

We all have to face these growing costs in the UK and I am pleased that our Prime Minister didn't get us directly involved in the war.

PS the thread title speaks to the first article. I'm sure we all know how prices, especially fuel have risen. It didn't really need much comment, although, after you asked I gave me comment. The second, the UK goverment plans to mitigate.

May I suggest that you'll get more engagement if you help inform users with your motivation for posting? Is it just for awareness? Is it because you agree strongly? Is it because you disagree?

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll bear in mind for the future.

Do you have anything to say about the actual subject matter? 😊

Hopefully not. However, the SOH is more shut than open and has been that way since the war began. The impact on food, fuel and people in general could be huge. War is expensive, in more ways than one.

I think so. I don't think Trump cares about the impact on poorer countries or any country that isn't the US or perhaps even on everyday folks in the US. He is super rich so it doesn't impact him.

What are you trying to achieve OP by posting this? Conversation, or scare mongering?

MissyB1 · 30/04/2026 17:35

its Interesting how everyone only blames Trump for starting this war, I believe it was Israel who were the main instigators, but either way both Netanyahu and Trump are to blame surely?

Anyway to answer OP, the consequences for the whole world are going to hurt badly for a very long time - and that was entirely predictable. I was gobsmacked at people who believed the war was going to be a positive thing and Iranians lives would be so much better for it 🤦‍♀️

Personally I feel Israel had a more compelling reason for war given the direct and proxy threat Iran posed to them.
I dont feel Iran posed the same threat to America and the US have flip flopped massively around their reasoning.
I think both the US and Israel misjudged how easily the regime would fall and I hope there's some hard questions being asked to the intelligence agencies- particularly Israels- given their long experience with religious nutjobs.
Basically I blame them both but Israel had better justification.

Exactly. There were lots on here cheering about how great it would be for the Iranians. As you say, it's amazing how little people think these things through.
Even now, most people haven't got much of an idea how much turmoil this has the potential to cause.
